has (or does) anyone own one of these? if so what are they like recoil wise and accuracy wise....thinking of a new gun for momma (she finds a regular 1911 a little heavy)....

I do not know if this pistol counts. It is my Colt Lightweight Commander; it isn't bad to shoot and a joy to tote. Regards, Richard :D

I have a Colt CCO Gunsite pistol. It has the officers frame and commander slide. This gives you the best of both worlds because the grip is small for smaller hands (more concealable as well not that it matters to us Canucks) but the slide is longer than the officers model which gives you better accuracy, reliability and controlability. It's not prohibited because the barrel is >106mm. It also has the Coltalloy (Aluminum) frame and carbon slide so it's very light but I find it to be very easy to shoot and very accurate. I got mine at the Shooters Edge just a couple months ago. I think they might have another unless it sold.

The Gunsite CCO comes like that from the factory. I've heard of other people who have just swapped out a commander slide onto an officers frame though so it should be doable (although I've never done it personally).
