Colt or Kimber 1911?

Hey Guys,

So I've been having a really tough time lately deciding between a stainless Colt or a Kimber 1911. I don't think I want a Springfield and I found a Colt fetching for a VERY reasonable price, but Kimber's look a little more sleek and aesthetically pleasing. However, the Kimbers I've found are fetching for far more. I know they're both solid manufacturers, and Kimbers might be more "in style" nowadays, but the Colt is a classic. The factors I'm considering are reliability and value in the long term. What do you guys think?

Colt was on my short list as well. I ended up purchasing the Kimber Eclipse Target II,
but have to wait four months to receive it.

Cheers

I ended up with a Kimber and am happy with it. That said, I had the chance to handle someones colt the other day and was very impressed. I had heard a lot of talk about them being fairly loose and havin a bit of play but this one seemed pretty tight to me. in terms of resale you'd prob get a bit better resale on a colt, but I'm no expert.

Colt, hands down.

Colts have better quality small parts and will likely give you fewer problems in the long run. Kimbers are popular because they have a slick marketing campaign and most people don't run many rounds through their guns.

For the features you get and what you pay it seems like your paying a hell of a lot more money just for the Colt name. Not saying they aren't a high quality firearm, because they undoubtedly are, but they don't seem to necessarily be high value.

Thanks for the link, I've never read anything like that. As far as price goes, the Colt I'm looking at is far less than the Kimber (because it's used, but still in very good condition), so the argument that Colt's are too pricey doesn't really affect me in this situation. Thanks for the feedback.

If you are buying Kimber, Shooter's Choice in AB usually gets a lot of votes.

I love my Kimber but I only bought it because no other manufacturer offered a 1911 with the same features I wanted at a price I could afford. If Colt made a 1911 that I liked or if more Springfields were more readily available in Canada or I was more rich, I wouldn't have gone with Kimber.

I'd go for a good Kimber 1911, try Roger at Shooters Choice in Arrowwood AB, best prices (has tax included in adv price) and fast cheap shipping, fully recommended !

Colt. Because when all is said and done, it's a Colt, and everyone else just wants to be one. Having said that, I've seem some nice Kimbers. I don't really think they are worth what they ask for them, but I'm a cheap old fudd. I do like the way the DW's are put together, and the Springfield Range Officer has most of the features I like in a 1911. I want to pound a Ruger for a while, see if they are as tough as they should be.- dan

lol well I apparently wasn't quick enough on the draw so to speak (I crack myself up sometimes), because when I called back Shooters Choice in Waterloo, the used Stainless Colt I was looking at apparently sold already. They still deal in brand new Kimbers (the ones I was originally looking at), but for a few bucks more I can get a new Colt from Ellwood Epps. The Kimber will always look nicer to me, but yea...a Colt is a Colt. It sounds like solid arguments can be made for both sides however. Bah screw it...I'll get a Taurus.
