Contemplating throwing this on EE, have no idea on the value. Please throw in your opinion as best as possible based on pics.
Mechanically is excellent with very strong main spring. All matching numbers including wedge. Safety pins mostly crushed but still visible, bore is dark, cylinder scene is like 40% very visible, flask is reproduction, and mold is Colt but missing cut off plate.

Thanks!

What is the serial number on that gun??
1850....12###
1874...340###
There were 11,000 London models made:
1853...1
1857...11,000
Looks like some damage on the grip but still a nice example.
Is there a story behind that gun?
Is the case original to the gun?
I just bought one on the EE nowhere near as nice as that one.
Here is a link to a U.S. Antique dealer with some examples:
http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/show_inventory.php?catID=13&subcatID=149

OK serial # is in range of 213###
Nipples are original and intact.
Bore is dark with visible but not strong rifling.
Cal is 31 and is six shoot. Single line address on top of the barrel, very visible and consistent.
75% bluing left on the frame, barrel has nice brown patina all around.
Grips have been repaired at some point in time, some cracks been filed with some kind of filler or glue but they still have 90% of original finish.

Skinny, thanks for that link. Prices are US$.

They were made with 6 shot cylinders...I didn't know that.
You will have to do some more research to find out if the 6 shot is worth more.

Most of the ones I have seen go in the 1300-1800 range. The case adds value but the grip repair will impact. I would speculate that

Pistol = $1400
Mold = $75
Flask = $25
Case = $200
Cap tin = $50 (assume it is correct vintage)

Total is $1750

If the case is actually original then add maybe another $250.

$2000 total as a start point. If I was selling it I would probably sell as low as $1500 assuming I wanted the money for another toy.

If there is history to the gun ie known owner etc then I might add to the estimate depending who it was and what proof I have.

CMichaud Thanks,

Your estimate looks a bit more on conservative side comparing to US pricing.
There is the one I am looking right now with serial # higher for about a 1000 than mine. here:
http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/product_details.php?itemID=21557

It is hard to judge this things.

I would tend to agree with CMichaud. The prices you're seeing with american commercial dealers are exactly that - prices. Those guns have likely been sitting at that price for quite a while. Also, the gun in the link seems in a bit nicer condition with more complete spare stuff (but a bit rattier box).

I'm guilty of this too, but when selling there's the temptation to justify a higher estimated value because you've seen other people valueing their guns at sky high prices. There's nothing wrong with it, but it may give you a distorted idea of the gun's true value.

If you're going to sell but aren't in any rush you can always list it at a price you'd like to see, then drop it down in a couple months if no one will commit or you get repeated offers at another price.

Looking at the dealer one for $5450 I note the following...

- Named with civil war name/unit engraved on it (add mucho dollars)
- Appears to be in orginal box with original tools
- Complete mold
- Original flask
- Reportedly has excellent cylinder engraving.
- No mention of bore, nipples, safety pins.

The dealer sites which I have seen the 1849s on regularly list these revolvers for 1300-1800 with no case etc. The $1800 ones I have seen are comparable in condition to the dealer one you linked (less the naming). Again, these are dealer prices.

A cased, engraved Tranter with Canadian pedigree sold on the EE about a month ago for 2k. The same guy had it at the Edmonton show the month prior. Think it was missing the loading arm but nice historical Canadian piece in original named case. The same guy had an 1849 listed that needed a spring I think. I would have put it in the Fair-Good category (he had that at the show too). He listed it for $1350 and sold it (although I am not sure for how much in the end).

I have sold guns at gun shows with my buddies and they think I sell them too cheap. The difference is they always have to lug theirs back home at the end of the show and for the sake of $100-200 dollars I am ready to buy some new stuff. In your case, without handling the revolver and inspecting it up close, I think I am being realsitic vice conservative.

I could be out to lunch though...you never know what people will pay! Like Wally said, list it for whatever you think you can get and adjust depending how bad you want/need it sold.

List it for whatever you think is right. It really depends if you want to sell it or not.:welcome:

Just looked what is available in the US, I think $1,750 is too high for a quick sale.

I also can't see the real condition of the gun, the pics are not good, from what I see, it is in OK condition but nothing special.

I came across an example of a Pocket with a 6 inch barrel and 6 shot cylinder:

The only dealers in the U.S. that I have ordered from are:Colt Parts, Vancouver Washington and Track of the Wolf.
I just sent the order for parts for my 1849 to Colt Parts so I will have to see how it goes.
My 1849 has a 5 inch barrel and is in "rough" shape so I am fixing it up.
