Colt Python ( Thnx For Replies)

Python is expensive and hard to find because it is an antique. The value will go up and up but never go down. A Diamondbck is even more valuable. How many times have you seen one for sale ? I have a Diamonback now and I don't know how much should I ask if I decide to let it go.
I have three Diamondbacks currently, two 4" (22 and 38) and a 6". Missed a snubby last year by a phone call, dammit! Also have a 4" Python, very nice revolvers, the Diamondback is not the equal of the Python in terms of trigger pull. Basically, a Diamondback is a pimped up Police Positive (Colt D frame), not that that's a bad thing. I was under the impression however that Pythons were still being made, but only from the custom shop. As for antiques, well, I'd much rather have a Python to use then any of the latest crunchenticker Euro guns that are out there. Your mileage may vary, however. - dan
Sounds good. Apparently even the Custom Shop stopped a while back. Being non-12-6 I can only hope to add a nice nickle and a stainless 6". I've looked at some 8" Pythons but they will have to wait in line. I also really like the other Colt and S&W revolver models from the 70's and 80's that you occasionally find on EE in excellent condition but that don't cost an arm and a leg like the more desirable Pyhtons, D-backs, and no dash S&W's. Just got a beautiful 1972 6" Trooper Mark III from a GunNut in NFLD and it is very nice.

I have two of those, one in 22 and one in 357. Used to have a third, 4" Border Patrol model. Would still like to find a Lawman version, snubby, in Coltguard finish. I was on a Colt binge for a while, I guess. Also need (need? Well, kinda, sort of) an Officer's Model Match Target in 38 to go with the 22 version in the cupboard. - dan

I know what you mean and I am party to that as well but sometimes one thought leads to another especially if the topic is interesting or controversial. Also anytime you get past 3 pages it begins to happen and I guess just part of human nature.

Mine's factory Nickel
I always wanted a Python, so in the early '80's I ordered a 6" blue one. Then I changed my mind and re-ordered the nickel version instead. Six inches. For the longest time I didn't fire it much because the factory walnut grips looked nice but didn't fit my hand.
Tried a number of grips but all of them didn't work until I saw a set I have never seen before. None of them improved the trigger either, just varied the distance between the DA pull.
Then, while I was at the SHOT show in February, at the Hogue booth, I saw a set of mono-grips. Put them on and the fit was perfect. Made the stroke length difference ideal so as to take advantage of the factory pull. The Python factory pull is close to the "cleaned up" pull of my S&W 686 Performance center Power Port. Very nice.
With the right load, Pythons will always outshoot all other factory revolvers because of the faster twist rate in the barrel.
Nickel is the way to go. I don't miss the Colt Royal blue since it is on my Diamond back. By the way, I saw the last production Colt Python at the SHOT show in Feb. The Colt people had it under glass in a display case at the show. I was drooling. Anybody else see it? Want it?

Another reason for the Python's accuracy is the fact that the bore has slight internal taper towards the muzzle. - dan
