Hi guys , looking to try and buy a colt python. Year doesn't matter as much as barrel length, looking for a 6
Inch. Does anyone know of any firearm stores around Calgary that are selling? Or any private sellers looking to get rid of theirs?

As someone said earlier, they're no longer making them but there are indeed, thousands of Brand New In The Box Pythons out there. That's right, thousands and if you go to Gunbroker.com you'll find all sorts of Pythons, new, hardly used, N/I.B., pretty clean and ....... well, you get the idea.

If you're looking for a new, 6" Blued Python be prepared to pay $,000. and up to as high as $5,200.00 as the last one did, but there are cheaper used ones out there.

Good luck.

Thanks , In all honesty am I going to notice a difference between a python or a s&w686? I know they are both great revolvers.

you may find S&W 686 everywhere but it is really hard to buy a good quality Python in Canada. Both are finest revolvers, very light trigger pull and very accurate. However a Python with good condition is very costly, as well as its parts , accessories and maintenance. chances are you probably won’t shoot your precious Python at all. But for 686, you will be likely shoot hundreds rounds in a day without any hesitate…. just my 2 cents

check youtube, you may find some videos comparing the two great guns. like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4G7wTIcaYs

I have to admit, Pythons have a well-deserved reputation for superior fit & finish.6 inch model is the most popular

686 is popular with law enforcement and civilians alike, due to it heavy, robust construction and excellent balance

Yeah, but these new 686's with the keyhole and a key to lock it and unlock it? You'll find that the long time collectors won't touch them. I know plenty of guys who wouldn't touch a newer 686 with a ten foot pole. Gun's ok, it's the KEYHOLE that turns off the old collectors.

By the way, thanks for the Renaissance Wax advice on my Python. found some on ebay and amazon.ca

I don't know anything about the possibility to by from them from your location, but hint hint CTVSP in Montreal has a stainless 6" for sale for 2500.
Looked in awesome shape.

I just bought a 6" nickel one in Vancouver for.....$1200. off course without a box, but.....hey, I don't care, it is alwasy my dream gun, and it is in an excellent condition. I won't sell it, so it does not matter. But I am prettey sure I can sell it for $1400 easy in canada.

$1200 for a nickel 6" I wouldn't think twice, that's a GREAT deal. Good on ya.

Decided that since I will be using it quite abit, i would feel back shooting a python all the time, plus the prices are holding me back. Decided to get a 686 or a 586 although right now im leaning towards the 586 simply because it looks amazing in my mind and can be had cheaper then a python. Thanks guys

I do not think you will ever be sorry for buying a S&W. I have both Colt and S&W And yes the Colt does look nicer and it is nicer to shoot but from talking to gunsmiths they are not nearly as strong as the S&W revolvers as they have a lot of moving parts in them that don't take abuse well.

As to one other fellows comments on that collectors don't like the new guns because of the locks. This is true but you are not buying it to collect but rather to shoot it, so the lock means nothing to you. Buy the smith and have fun with it.

I have the colt python and my buddy just got a smith and Wesson 686 4.2" barrel and i must say I really like the 686. You won't be sorry if you buy one. It's an awesome piece love the short barrel my python has the 6". They are both great wheel guns.
