I have

about 2 dozen commemorative rimfire revolvers that are neat, they are in storage so do not ask about photos,

IK have a centerfire CUTAWAY ENGRAVED FROM THE FACTORY I just got a few months ago,

took a year to get into canada, bought it with nothing down at the colt collectors show last year in kansas city,

maybe I could send pics to dan b but i thought he was off working somewhere,

not even sure of the caliber, but factory letter, bought from the past president of the colt collectors association with nothing down,

told him I just got done at the USA nationals br competiiton and took in the show not expecting to find anything,

he remembered my dad and I (some guns of museum quality) so he said OK

sent a money order a week after we got back,

you would not believe the gun, found another one but could not buy it without paying so left it at the show

Jefferson pics later when I find a e-mail buddy

I've got two collector SAA's. Here's some new pics of one of them. I've been waiting for months for a letter from Colt for this gun. I'm beginning to wonder if those old timers in the Historical Dept. all went and croaked on me.:p

The strange fuzz on the bottom of the inlaid gold eagle is just lint from the silicon cloth I used before taking the shot.

Does anyone know when Colt started making the two piece grips, all of my cap and ball revolvers have a single piece grip as does the reproduction 1873????

okcorral1881,
A very fine collection you have there in various barrel lenghts. Congrats !! Reminds me of a similar collection of approx 18-20 Colts I had back in the 90s...

Straightshooter,
Very handsome COLT !! Quite an impressive sight !!

Here's my 1st Generation 45 Colt Intermediate black powder frame sn 91### produced in 1884. This Colt can be traced back to the early pioneers who settled in Natrona Country, Wyoming during the 1895-1906 period. Original owner was Lew Seely, one of those settlers, as indicated on the Colt's grip frame. Some documentation I have...Later on another fellow got it, stamping his initials JED on the right frame. Period holster by JS Collins & Co, Montana.

Somewhere in it's life the loading gate & trigger were replaced otherwise it is all original. Trigger guard was also ``squashed on a desk`` a popular way used by Marshalls at the time, rendering such hoglegs less interesting...

If only this Colt could talk...
Mk

Thanks kidvet, The first one is a Six-Shooter 1st gen, the second is a first production of 2nd gen. 1956 and the 3rd is a very first production of 3rd...a frame of 2nd and a cylinder of 3rd gen.

Very nice Colt you have there and I love when history could be proven by letters, pictures etc.
I think that a few screws and the stocks have been changed too! No?
Also is it possible that JED is not someone's name but identication of a work place, like a jail or security company etc (RCMP, OPP etc.)??
Was it lettered by Colt?

I will PM you this week...

OK

Ya it takes a while to get a letter!
When was it made ? I guess you don't have the box!
Do you have an idea if Colt did the engraving? That makes a big difference in value!

There are many reasons to want the Colt letter. Your questions, though, are the most compelling reason I want one. I can't date this gun without it because it has a non-standard serial number that doesn't appear on any known serialization list or reference.

I didn't get the box with the gun - it came into my hands just as you see it in the photos.

I anticipate that Colt did the engraving, but it's not a pattern that can be ordered through the custom shop, so it pretty much has to be a special project that was contracted to an outside engraver. Personally, I discount the possibility that the gun was engraved after the fact, based on the custom serial number.

Why was this gun commissioned? When was it built? Who did the engraving?

And, yes, the answers to these questions can and likely will influence the value.

Every time I look at this gun I feel like the average Joe who wakes up in bed with a super model. I keep asking myself "how can I be so fortunate?"

Let us know when you get the letter....meanwhile if you're in a hurry for the DOB, PM me the serial # and I'll see what I can do.

OK

for a date call 1-800 sutherland

the sutherland book on colt firearms will have most dates by year for most models, much better than the $5 pocket book

have most descriptions of grips and options as well,
