Colt Sales in Canada

Arms East is where I purchased my repro series 70 gov't .45
It was on sale for $1245.,....I'm sorry now I didn't buy the commander as well! These are beautiful guns indeed!

Its a drib-drab thing. Proline Shooters in Calgary seems to get them every once in a while. Got a box of Colts in later last year, wife bought the Stainless Mk 70 from that batch and before that I managed to get two WWI repros from them. They currently have an order in for about 6 or 7 SAA's that was put in last year....still waiting......sigh

So in summary, yes they come in, but infrequently. I don't know who else in AB sells Colts.....

I think I got the last Series 70 from that Proline shipment you refer to.
After purchasing it I was immediately overcome with "buyer's remorse," not the usual type, but the kind that sets in when it dawns on me as to what my wife is going to say about "another" gun purchase.

When I got home she hit me with one of her crafty questions that she had learned from her years with the Spanish Inquisition: "What did you get at the store?" I couldn't stand up to such a withering attack, and so blurted out the essentials of my transgression.

She responded in her coldest NKVD like fashion: "Well, it IS a Colt! Look at it as an investment."

Absolutely true story!!!

And to think all the years I had maintained that dishonesty was the best policy when it came to telling her of any of my gun purchases! Twenty five years - it doesn't bear further contemplation.:(

I wouldn't think. Colt is pretty low profile in their operations (they can afford to eb) and most gunshops I've been in play down COlts since they have other brands with much higher profit margins they'd rather sell you :D

Walter can get anything in their civie line, but the product runs are few and far between. Since they lost the M4 contract hopefully more will be produced.

I have collected guns for many years, so I unwrap it in the Garage destroy the shipping info and bring it in the house like I had it in the garage cleaning it, so far this system has proved to be successful, just make sure you have a seperate bank account for gun purchases.

SAA's start at around $1500Cdn. Most are over $2200. If you can find one. The excessive prices makes the market small. Hence, the availablity is small.
If you want a single action revolver, buy a Ruger.
"...Series 70..." That's not a SAA.

Possible alternative

Hi,

Unless you are absolutely determined to have a Colt, you might want to consider an STI Texican. I've read several reviews of that firearm and examined high quality photos (on real paper) and it appears to be superbly authentic ... right down to the traditional-style firing pin that mandates a 5-cartridge loading ... and made with wickedly-close NASA-spec tolerances.

Pricey, but worth it ... and fairly available. It seems that at least one of our sponsors (Armco) still has one. Go there and read what Gunnar thinks of it ... and this guy knows handguns inside-out.

I bought a new Combat Elite from Armseast last March. Taxes and delivery came to $1600. Picked up a new Gold Cup Trophy from Ellwood Epps for the same kind of money in May. New Colts are hard to find and they go fast. There is a NIB Colt in the EE now.Take a look.

With Colt, as with any maker there will always be the pro's and the con's. Usually its about history and personal pride. I always liken it to the decal you see on vehicles which shows Calvin (from Calvin & Hobbes) pissing on the logo of the owners perceived 'bad product' either Ford, GMC, Dodge or whatever, same thing goes for firearms.

I like Colts because of the history, their collectability over a long period of manufacturing and generally their simple, rugged looks. As a result, when I look at other 1911's for instance, I make faces, stick out my tongue and generally act like I know better 'the one true way'. Reality is though, I don't care, people take pride in themselves and their choices and to some degree it becomes a part of their 'firearms' persona.

Yes, if you want a 1911 to shoot and don't care much else, there are lots of good 1911's to find easily, pick up and shoot. But if you just gotta have a Colt, they are around and come in every once in a while, you just have to wait to find the opportunity.

I haven't heard anything about the no-Colt-to-Canada thing, I doubt thats the case, but what can't be argued with is that they aren't a 'big' import item and I think that always comes down to the market and cost, in this case the Colt name will always mean you're spending a lot more than other similar 1911s, and most people can't or won't drop $1600 on a 1911.

thanks guy`s . I think I will take a different direction on buying a colt . I know want a Single action peace maker 45 Colt . I think my auto day`s are over for a little while . Thanks for all the tips . Joe
