Colt Series 70 barrel collet bushing

Hi guys,

I bought a great Series 70 1911 6 months or so ago and it runs just fine but the other day, I was stripping it after cleaning and the collet flew off into a dark corner under mega-spring tension. When I found it, it had fractured a little and I now need to buy a new one. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

Cheers,
Jim

The very nice Colt collet bushings are tempered steel and flexible so that that the collet teeth act under slight pressure to engage the barrel. They are not brittle steel and designed not to break.
Colt collet bushings work just fine, last thousands of rounds, and do the job they are supposed to. Just as the failure rate of Colt 1911 slide stop levers, the failure of Colt collet barrel bushings is a myth.

Hartman is not correct on the collet bushing. It was discontinued because of failures. You might note that the follow on Colt models did not use it, and finding a replacement is unlikely. My 1976 series 70 had one, the first thing replaced when it received its accurizing was the collet. X-Ring match bushing has been in place since 1979, and through 40000 rounds - still shoots X-Ring groups.
