Colt series 80 rattle - issue is with plunger+bar lever. Any thoughts?

Hoping NAA is around to straighten this one out, though I know he's about his all-originals, but would love to hear from some of the other 1911 pros on here. Have taken my series 80 Colt down about a thousand times, and never have I run into such a problem. Though I have series 70 as well, I can't help but keep the company of my park'ed S80, but this is quite the bother.

Though it is not a huge issue, I'm finding there to be too much give between the frame slot and PLUNGER BAR (series 80 lever to release firing pin safety), which is allowing for quite the rattle when the pistol is moved. Any solutions or thoughts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this one. Never had the issue before, so you could imagine this has been driving me up the way.

There is no genuine reason for the series 80 modifications, so there is a spacer available that fills in the cavity made for the two levers in the frame.

You are right that the series 80 firing pin safety is a gimmick designed by lawers. The frame slot filler plate you are talking about is for fitting series 70 slides to series 80 frames. Putting it into his series 80 gun will disable this safety and it doesn't matter whether it is a gimmick or not it is a no no. You can do it on your gun but don't suggest it to somebody else.

Gwhysow, if you never had this issue before, I advice you to take this gun apart and put it together again. You probably did some booboo when assembling it. Those levers can be very confusing. Good luck.

+1 on removing the superfluous Series 80 bits. The inertia firing pin is all the drop safety you need.

If NAA were here he'd say he knows next to nothing about Series 80 pistols except that the Series 80 firing pin safety junk in 'em is an endless source of frustration. So much so he usually shies away from any 1911 with that confounded junk in 'em. Save and except the Colt Delta 10mm's which you can't avoid being Series 80's. Then and only then will NAA make an exception about Series 80 type Colts..... :p

NAA -- I'm with you a 100%. I love my Series 70 without question, but this Colt has never done me wrong until now. My trigger pull has suffered the most minuscule of pull, but I wouldn't really notice it unless I nixed the trigger job, and place a stock sear assembly back in. I didn't think this was your cup of tea, but I thought that I'd give it a shot. Thank you though....and how I would love to add a Delta to the family.
