My brother wants to get one of the new SAA reproductions that are being put out by Colt's custom shop. He's not really a gun nut, but for some reason he really wants that particular revolver (must be all those cowboy movies...). In fact, he's planning to get a firearms license just so that he could buy that gun. Does anybody in Canada sell these and if so, how much do they go for? (And yes, I do realize that they are not cheap and that various clones can be had for much less but he only wants the real deal.)

Colt SAA

Didn't know that they were doing them again... Funny thing is that I bet they are not making them themselves but a certain company that makes a 'repro' Colt SAA is also making the 'new' Colt SAA. Just assembled in the USA so the Americans can feel better about it... :p but you pay for the 'Colt' name... ;)

If I was him I'd look around for an 'older' Colt SAA. I really like my 2nd generation SAA...

No, all the final assembly is made by Colt's custom shop as far as I know.

But I bet the parts are actually made 'off shore' then imported to the US for "final assembly...by Colt's custom shop".

Personally, if I was going to pick up another SAA [or pair] I'd look at the Pietta SAA's. Can easily get a pair for well less than 1/2 what a 'Colt SAA' will set you back now.

But yeah, he wants a 'real' Colt... :p

NAA, do you have any first hand experience with the new SAA or are you one of those people who hate everything that wasn't made at least 30 years ago :p I keep hearing that new Colts aren't as good as they used to be, and yet from my experience, Colt's new 1911s are just as good (if not better) as anything they've been making in the past. I don't know if the same is true of the new SAA though. If anyone on this board actually has a recent production SAA, I'd be interested to know what you think about it.

The recent model Colt SAA's I've seen/examined can't hold a candle to the first & second generation SAA's. Maybe one has to special order a spankin' new Colt SAA from their 'custom shop' just to get the same quality as you used to get 'right off the assembly line' in years gone by... ;)

Personally, as far as the Colt 1911's go, I only own one 'Series 80' type - a Colt Delta 10mm - and for obvious reasons - they didn't make them before 'Series 80'. The rest of the Colt 1911's I own are 'vintage'. The only 'new' Colt 1911's I'd be interested in owning are the 'repro' Series 70 or the 'repro' USGI 1911's or 1911A-1's. Sad fact but Colt just 'ain't what it used to be'... :(

First you said that you didn't know that Colt was still making the SAA and now you say that you handled a new production gun and it was not up to your standards? In any case, thanks for your opinion.

I meant I wasn't aware that Colt was doing the SAA again as a 'custom shop' item... The 'recent model' Colt SAA's I referred to as handling were obviously post 2nd generation models... And it's true the fit & finish of those is nothing compared to the 1st & 2nd generation SAA's. [I handled some Colt mfg SAA's that were 'new' or 'as new' (& post 2nd generation) while at a gun show in Las Vegas in March 2006. But I did neglect to ask the vendor when/where they were actually manufactured]. And you are correct, they weren't/aren't up to my standards.... :D

So, I agree... I can't verify handling a new Colt SAA that came off the assembly line or outta the 'custom shop' yesterday...

I know this is a really old post but I sold SAA decades ago that had silver grips. I’m trying to track it down. Any chance you still have some info on what might have happened to this one?
He hasn't been on the site in 15 years...

Silversmith by the name Tristan Hymus could probably make you a pair of grips. You can find him on facebook. He also does really sweet miniature model guns.
