So I have had this colt ace kicking around for about 20 years , never shot it much cleaned it even less , other than keeping it oiled.
it is a 1981 production according to the serial number. Son and his girlfriend had it at the range a while back and it was jamming up, so I figured it
was due for a good scrubbing.
This gun has not been used much still has nice bluing etc , you can just tell it has not been shot much in it's life , the rails still have most of their bluing
intact.

So i Give the barrel a good scrub and have a look and there appears to be next to no rifling , so I filled the barrel with " lead remover"
and let it sit over night and gave it another good scrub , seems a bit better but realistically maybe no better than the day before.

Did these barrels have very light rifling in them ? you can see the lines but there seems to be no pronounced land and groove.

some of my hi standards are like that, real light rifling, if it looks the same from chamber to crown, don't get carried away and mess it up, you do know what these are worth these days?

Thanks, I decided to check a couple of my ruger 77/22 and pretty light riffling there as well. also had a look at the colt diamondback and it looks pretty much the same. I was cleaning up an old enfield my son bought,
after a trip to the range and though I would clean a few more that had been kind of neglected. And after looking through the bore of the enfield I was kinda like WTF when I looked down the colt barrel.

Go easy on the bore. Many of my 22 pistols have what one might consider "light rifling" but shoot just fine.

If there was any residue (lead/powder) in the bore you would know it the first look down the bore.

Just shoot it and run some patches through the bore right after shooting while fresh and the powder residue will wipe right out. I have never seen a 22 rimfire bore leaded.

How does the Colt Ace shoot? Does it have the recoil moving chamber?

I had a older colt woodsman that was leaded bad, and at the moment I have a Hi Standard derringer so bad it looks like a smooth bore, no sign of the rifling, you can tell from the feel of the rod, tight as hell.
Don't know why it is that bad, don't look like it has been shot a huge amount, hard to do with these, have a 22 mag one that is fine, but it is almost new.

Yeah it has the floating chamber, and it was jamming up when my son took it to the range, I had not shot it in years but figured it needed a good cleaning and figured it was powder fouled in the floating chamber.
I seem to recall it shot all right. Now that it is cleaned up I guess I will have to take it to the range and see what it is like on paper. That will tell the tale.
