I've been spending a lot of time with my M305 lately but that wandering eye of mine is at it again.

I've never been into ARs but I saw an old Colt SP1 on the EE a week or so ago and I can't get it outta my mind.
I can't afford the real deal but would like to put something together that's as close as possible. Either that or buy something made up to look right. I know there are the norc 311s around. Who else makes a full length?

Can you guys help a black rifle noob out?

I think the lowest I've ever seen an SP1 on the EE was around $800 they are usually around $1000 or so.... you should be able to find one for "just under a grand" if you are patient and or lucky.

The Norinco's are usually around $600 or so which unless you want that model, it is a bit high in today's new Norinco M4 pricing.

I found one for $800 on the EE. If you try building your own you don't get an actual Colt and will probably have to compromise on some features. I think the right barrel profile and the handguards would be hard to find. Put up a want to buy ad and I'm sure someone will sell you one. Mine is not for sale.:p

If you really like the colt Why not save an extra 500 or so and buy what you really want?

Canada does not have a deep well of older AR variants. The SP1 is the only reliable source of a pre-A2 model. The Norinco's are also out there in number, but they are all a bit suspect because they started as Norinco's, then they had to have a few parts swapped out to make them look like Vietnam era guns. Most people who swapped parts went to newer versions, not older ones.
