What's so special about this gun? I see there is one with 2 mags in .38 Super listed for $2775.

They fetch high prices even in the US. One thing I never could understand though is why, on a gun that costs so much, is there no front strap checkering!

No front strap checkering, I don't think Colt does that anymore. I can't figure out why this gun is worth $1275 more the my stainless Gold Cup Trophy.

The special part of these guns is the grips -- if you stare at the grip and kind of let your eyes unfocus, or rather, focus on a point about 18 inches BEYOND the grip, a 3-D picture appears.

.38 super will always be a little pricer, but even in .45 these aren't cheap. Extensive hand fitting...and you are paying for expert labour. The Colt Custom Shop these days does extremely high quality work. It's not the CCS some of us remember at all. I would take one of these ahead of a lot of the high-end "production customs" like Les Baer, and that is despite the fact that I greatly prefer frontstrap checkering.

There was a few of these around about 6 mos ago. Kicking myself for not getting one as they went fast.
I would love a Colt that would match the current breed of higher end factory offerings.

They do offer front strap checkering as an option on their other custom shop offerings, there is a poster on pistoltraining.com who was several examples, and their checkering is definitely top notch, it would be right at home on the SCG, but being in Canada the pistol as is, is likely the only glimpse of the Colt Custom Shop your going to see outside of maybe importing a second hand unit from the US.

Why is this gun so special? Its a Genuine COLT thats why. Not a Remington,,Not a Les Bear,,Not a Nighthawk, Not a Ruger, Not a Springfield, Not and SVI not an STI and it most definitely is not a Norinco. It is the real deal. They charge a bit of a premium because they can. You can find more accurate 1911's, more reliable 1911's and 1911's that have much more value added features for the money. But if those 1911's don't have the little Horse on the side or do not say "Colt" than they are not the real deal.

Wow....Amazing Colt pistol. Too bad .38 Super is a queer cartridge lol. It's .45 ACP or nothing...unless if it's a Delta, 10mm Auto gets half marks.

There's three different styles to that pistol. Different sights and grips, two toned, etc.

I'd drop 2K on one in a second...if my salary was 100K year lol

Nice gun but I don't agree with Colt about the duty carry part. The edges are way too sharp and I prefer combat/fixed sights for carry or defense guns. It is a great gun for competition or target shooting though.
I prefer the, special order, Custom Colt below, made on a Gold cup frame. Only 30 were made and only one landed in Canada.

This one looks almost like my GCT except for the mag well, front sight, grips and roll marks. But for $1275 more, I don't know.

Don't get me wrong...all GC are great guns but it wouldn't be fair to compare them to SCG. Gold Cups are production target guns, Special Combat G. are Colt's top of the line competition ready guns. They come from the Custom Shop, they have better fit and finish, different beavertail, trigger, enhanced hammer, magwell, Bomar and Hinie sights, S&A grip safety, custom tuned action, polished feed ramp, throated barrel, flared ejection port, extended ambi thumb safety etc. The gun is fully accurized and is test fired before leaving Colt. The test target comes with the gun. I agree that the Gold Cup is more than enough for most shooters but......;)
Did I mention they come in hard chrome?

OK

The stuff that the CCS puts out has been smoothed down, and the 1970CY model does come with duty-appropriate sights (I agree that does not include bomars).
