Colt Sportster AR 15 value?

If I had to guess, it sounds like it's a A2 top, large pin lower, with 20" Hbar barrel. If this is correct, it'd be worth $1200-$1400 (upper end only because it's new, that doesn't mean it'll sell at that price) based on other rifles of that model that have gone through the CGN EE over the last few years.

Hmmmmm, bayonet lug or no bayonet lug ?

HBAR or Government Profile Bbl ?

GS would indicate a Colt R6550 Government Model, but apparently some Colt R6551 Sporter Targets made it out with the GS serial number prefix instead of the ST prefix.

Sounds like a nice piece.

There is a bayonet lug, I am unsure of the barrel type, is there an easy to determine it?

Pre Ban Colt Sporter Target Model HBAR 1/7,catalog R6551. Made for the '89 California AW Ban, doesn't appear to be drilled for the sear block.

This model was introduced to replace the Colt AR15A2 Government Model rifle catalog R6550 when states (principally California) started banning rifles by name and with certain features (flash hiders, bayonet lugs).

After '89, Colt AR15's were banned in California, Colt Sporters were perfectly legal, of course California later took care of that as well.
 
you know what , look at that AR right it say's freaking Sporter right on it. its for hunting why cant i go and hunt with a 5 round mag on my tricked out Sporter I just don't get it . Its my right to go Hunting with a Remington 870 or 700 SPS chambered in 223. So why cant i take my Simi auto Sporter chambered in 223 out to have some fun .... NO logic on the behalf of the Liberal government. seeing as they classified the AR15 a sporting / target shooting rifle because it was used in american and Canadian competition. so if i can long range target shoot with a 700 why not an Ar-15 the same rules would apply to storage and transport as for non restricted class firearms .

The barrel narrows inside the hand guards.... so it is not an Hbar.
I was mistaken there is no bayonet lug... it is on my other rifle :redface:.
Any ideas what I should ask when selling?

It's a mismatched rifle. The Target Sporter model was sold only with an HBAR barrel. Around $1k would probably be fair.

In 1990 they sold for $895 (Sporter) to $995 (A2 HBar) New, not including tax.

Some dealers today have them (Colt) up to $1750, and they sell, being a Colt and all.
(Your #### won't fall off as it's USGI).

Hell, what does a new "Chinese" AR15 NorInco sell for these days?
