Hello,
My local store has a .22 colt trooper longer barrel and blued(not sure of the mk#) for $595. Ive seen prices range between 300 and 800 for these online in canada and the us form what i can find.

So is this a good price?

My other option is the ruger single six .22/.22mag for about $550(new).

any opinoins about the two?

Thanks for the help!

Troopers are nice guns, albeit heavy as they used the same full frame as the .357's. for the .22s.

That price is a bit high unless prestine with a box, or NIB, and likely in either case, stainless. There are a few really rare models too, so it may be one of those. There are people in the US that go crazy for the Troopers, but the market doesn't seem to reflect that yet up here.

Two strikes against are:
1. Troopers have been out of production since 1985ish so parts and accessories could be getting harder to find.
2. If a MkIII, you have to be careful not to dry fire it since, if the firing pin in the transfer bar system breaks, it pretty much has to be sent back to Colt to repair as it takes a special jig (or so I've heard). Not a big issue if you aren't abusing it.

i did dry fire it in the store, the owner didnt say anything, ill have to go back and check it out again

IMHO, one dry fire shouldn't crack it, they aren't THAT fragile; but there is always a chance. It is just something you have to be careful of not to do, or use snap caps.

Just do a search on Google of "Colt Trooper Dry Firing" to get more info.

If you really like the gun, I wouldn't let the above scare you. They are good guns, a piece of history now, and relatively unique as there aren't a lot around.

That said, there is nothing wrong with a Single Six convertible, either. That's another fun gun.

It will come down to your personal preference on how they feel and shoot.

22 Trooper is likely to be a Mk III. I have a couple of them, good guns. Came with 4, 6, and 8 inch barrels. Catalogue had 2.5" barrels too at one time, but I've never seen one with that length. You can replace the firing pin, it's just not easy. You can buy or build your own jig for doing it. Unless it is NIB, or something unusual (Coltguard finish, nickel, snubby) it's worth $500 max. - dan
