colt tropper mk3

Get a copy of "The Colt Double Action Revolvers A Shop Manual Vol II" by Jerry Kuhnhausen. He gives a very detailed check list of what to look for and how to check out the gun for defects or signs of back yard gunsmithing.
Another suggestion is to have a competent gunsmith look it over. It may save you a few bucks in repairs.

They are a good, serviceable revolver. Use a coil spring action instead of the the leaf used in the Python and earlier Troopers. This was brought in because of cost of the Python and it's action fitting. Available in 22 LR, 22 Mag and 38/357, with barrel length of 4", 6", and 8". Three finishes (blue, Coltguard, and nickle). There was also a fixed sight version called the Lawman, which was available as a snubby. Colt also sold these as Border Patrol models, with no actual difference to the revolver that I have ever found, except the rollmarking on the barrels. FWIW - dan
