Colt vs Norinco

I do wonder though how many people on here have an opinion yet have owned neither a Colt or Norinco 1911..... :bangHead:

STI Spartan

I swear these threads get started just so the Colt fanboys can pump themselves up.

My advice would be skip both brands and buy yourself a STI Spartan. Its all the quality and less money than a colt.

Yes, there's nothing wrong with an STI Spartan, either.

Which is better? the Colt is better, but I have owned both in the past and the Norinco did work, but was not of the same quality for fit and finish. If I were looking for a new 1911, I would buy an S.T.I. Spartan from Armco.

Norinco .45 1911a1's are built to fill a market for $300.00/$400.00 cost guns. Get norinco to build a gun for the $800.00 market and see what they deliver. I like my norinco's, but early colts and series 70's have their place and a following.

there are other choices like springfield, kimber etc... that you might want to check out

X2. The Colt 1911 is probably the most copied design in handgun history, and a lot of good, reputable gun manifacturers make 1911 guns. Much better to check out these guns then to settle for a cheap, commie, knockoff.

You may pay a bit more, but you'll have a good, quality, gun to show for it.

Here is another one. $349 for the gun from the great guys at Canada Ammo, added a few extra parts to make it IDPA legal and the Marstar magwell, and for under $500 this is what I get. This gun shoots out of this world, every bit as good as my, now sold, Gold Cup. As far as quality goes, yes, the Norc is not as nice in fit and finish, but the quaility if steel sure is better, my gunsmith can attest to that.

This is the best comment so far. There is no doubt that Norinco could build a gun that matches or exceeds Colt in the $800 market.

I am also amused at references to Hyundai vs Lexus etc.... Hyundai has improved quality and reliability very substantially in the last 10 years, and are now on the heals of the Japanese. And as for the Japanese, 50 to 60 years ago, "Made in Japan" meant that the product was cheap junk. Times change.
