That's a good one. Do you know where Colt gets many of it's slides for it's guns? <HINT> - a 3 letter gun company you're prejudiced against.
Colt was comparable with STI back when the series 70s came out, but today - they're factory line guns being plugged together like S&W, Paras and Kimbers. STI, Brown, Wilson are the ones that still employ gunsmiths to fit each and every part.

I see you're here in NS. Bring your (last 20 year manufactured) Colts and I'll bring my (any) STIs and I'll be happy to give you a schooling on quality. I'll arrange the range.

For the other poster - why are the bushings so tight? Accuracy. Customers want a more accurate gun than one that is quickly field stripped these days. For real combat specs, STI does the Bull Barrel design.

As for combat - well, there are a lot more STI tacticals in the hands of special forces teams in this world than Colts - and they don't have any problems with the recoilmaster.
 
^Totally agree. I wouldn't look at a Colt unless it's an old series 70.

I fell in love all over with my Trojan after giving it to my uncle who has never shot one before and his first 5 shots were 2" groups at 10 feet. Trigger pull is friggin sweet right out of the box.

Colt vs STI

If I was looking for a Commander style 1911 in 9mm and my preferences were Colt vs STI..... If I couldn't get a Series 70 or pre Colt Commander in 9mm I'd opt for an STI Ranger without hesitation.

I have to admit that I would chose a Colt over an STI for nothing more than I like Colt. It may not be reasonable, logical or considerate of comparisons over cost, quality etc etc, but that's it!

I just like the simple, ageless lines of the Colt. All those fat deep roll marks, slanted slide serrations and battleship sights sort of take away from the aesthetically pleasing lines of a good 1911.
 
I'd go with STI. IMO they are a better made gun than Colt with the warrenty to back it up and for near the same price. I'm not into that rattle when I shake the gun. I realise that having a little play can aid in reliability. However it was at least a year or two since I was crawling through mud and sand while toting a pistol,:rolleyes: so my STI suites me fine. The only complaint I have is the finish was a little weak (Trojan)
 
STI is a way better gun, will it ever be a classic, maybe but for now it's just an STI which I would rather spend money on, someone on here should run a Colt/STI poll!!!
 
If Colt uses STI made slides it's news to me so another interesting bit. I guess it's like the STI Spartan frames that are apparently made by Armscor/Rock Island.

Yah could be, some times manufacturers cannot keep up with production & possibly farm their work out & have one of their guys go work in house to maintain the QA/QC, not sure but I bet it happens sometimes!

How's the teflon finish holding up on your Trojan? Current pic?
 
STI all the way .Have had both ,will have another STI someday.
Plus Sean at Freedom Ventures is the STI go to guy in Canada .And he knows what he's talking about.try to find original Colt parts in Canada.Lot's of luck there.........
