Hey guys,
I have the opportunity to buy a Colt Gold Cup series 80 in very good condition. Trigger job, extended beaver tail, ambidextrous safety were added. How much money should I put on it? Unfortunately I can't show pics...:(
Also, if I decide to sell it, am I gonna be stucked or it's a good seller?
BTW That would be my first 1911. Tks for your comment.

gold cups are good sellers, depends on if blued or stainless but ballpark price of around $1000 plus or minus $200 depending on condition, quality of the gunsmithing and how many rounds fired.

If possible, try to shoot it before you buy it,or at least have a very good look at it.

I had a series 80 GC some years ago.It was made in the mid 80s when Colt was having alot of labour problems and QC issues. This particular Colt was one of the worst guns I have ever owned. It rattled like crazy when you shook it,wouldnt group within a foot at 25yds and jammed repeatedly.I sunk alot of money into it,finally getting it to work(somewhat)

The early GC's are great,If I was looking for a GC again I would go for a series 70.It also depends on what shooting you are doing, for target shooting with light loads they are OK,but if you will be doing IPSC,the sights wont hold up and will depart the frame after a few hundred rounds, you will also need to replace springs if you shoot major loads.

Quite frankly, unless I found a nice used older GC I would rather spend my money on a new STI or Kimber etc

Thats just my 2c however!
