Your almost more army than me!;)

now you are sweet talking me

You mean my right foot that I'm sitting on?Anyone can achieve this by simply doing it for 5 minutes a night in front of the TV.
Also the type of boots you are wearing makes a difference.Softer boots work better than super stiff leather.Once you have it down
keep stretching by rolling your heel away from your butt so that you are sitting on the inside of your foot.

I have been trying to sit on the inside of my foot because it strains my shin or maybe my ACL when I sit on the foot like in your photo for more than say 30 seconds. Are you saying you think sitting on top of the heel is more stable or the inside of the foot? I like the idea of sitting on top of it because when it comes time to get up and go you could push off more comfortably.

I need to practice this, my ankle was burning pretty good yesterday. New boots might help too, my hiking boots seems to make it worse by creating a hinge at my ankle.

I think the inside of the foot works better if you can achieve it.Like I said go slow and work it for 5 minutes at a time in front of the boob tube at night.Start with holding it for one commercial and then work your way up from there. You don't need any shoes to stretch it up!

Interesting.....lots of good kneeling info here, with a tinge of NAMBLA in the background between the army guys....

To the OP, glad to hear that the results bear out on the range.

NS

^^^ lol
It sure does bear out on the range. Half my team are now using it. We shot steel the other day, which included 100m kneeling at 3 inch steel plates.......ding! ding! ding!

Our nutty RSO had us shooting pistol at 50m, with 4 and 5 inch plates. More ding! ding! ding! by nearly everyone on the line. Some great shooting.

Mauser,
I slowly built up my flexibility with the position in front of the boob tube, as Longshot suggested. I started out holding it through commercials (mostly beer and car ads) then progressed to sitcoms and reality tv programs. (but nothing with ozzy or the kardashians in it. too tiresome)

With effort, I was able to maintain a steady position throughout the often long-winded nature documentries of Richard Attenbourough. Interesting at times, but also alittle tedious.

But, I finally reached my limit while watching the feature length film 'The American' with George Clooney. Ugggh!
Not because my foot went numb....but rather, because the plot was so stupid and shiftless, and the dialogue so pretentious. That was a self-indulgent arte film written by George Clooney, for George Clooney. Uggh! I did not like it.

Ha! That's a painful regime if there ever was one, but you'd come out the other side of it mentally toughened.

If I really wanted to punish myself I'd start with 2min exposures of George Strombpolombpulolous. Then when I could get through that (admittedly, I might not make it) I'd step it up to 5min exposures of Man Tracker. Finally to push myself to the limits knowing it would pay off on the range, I'd tackle a complete episode of The View.

Who am I kidding though, I'll have smashed my TV during the first "Strombo" exposure.

Seriously though, I find it easy to do without boots on but as soon as I put on my hikers the hinge effect creeps in. I tried sitting on my heel with my toe to the ground but it's not nearly as stable. Need taller boots and basically just have to stop being such a #####.

Outstanding use of the CBC as a training aid!
The distress caused by the CBC results in the discomfort of joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments being stretched to fade into the background and become no more than a nagging irritation.

Mauser,
Wow! You can do 2 mins in that position while watching George Strombo? I was just sitting on the couch, channel surfing and stopped on his sh*te program for 2 seconds....BOOM!.....my foot immediately went numb. It took ten minutes of watching Women's beach volleyball to bring the feeling back.

THE VIEW?

If I could even hold a sandbagged prone positiion while watching those cackling hags, I'd be Service Rifle World Champ. I'd make G David Tubb look like Ricardo Tubbs. I kid you not. lol

That modified kneeling is steady. You don't need (as I first thought) to rest the bottom of the trigger guard on the knee, but rather merely need to back the rifle up so that the rear of the mag contacts (steadies) on the shin.

:)

Stretch out the foot by standing on a stair facing the stair. Heels hanging over the edge. And gradually allow the bodies weight to stretch out the ligament. It might help with preventing plantar fasciitis condition. And the cramping from putting full body weight on the back right foots heel and bent toes.

The other thing a physio therapist told me . Roll the arch of your foot over a large soup can.

Might prevent a few charlie horses in the foot arch when you go stand up.

Ha!
Right now I'm shooting my M14 and can't get anywhere near that position with mag. Was watching others near me with their AR's and I saw what you are describing.

I'll have something with a pistol grip, hopefully for next season. :)

I would like to send a big thanks out to everyone for the great info in this thread... but does anyone have any tips for kneeling with a bul-pup like the tavor? Obviously putting the mag in front of the knee will not be possible.

I would put the trigger guard up against the knee, with my support hand on the other side.
Not kneeling related, but a Tavor is an absolute natural for prone. Mag. on the ground, support fist under the grip. It just sits there. Very stable.

Another option for those with shorter mags is to put your hand on top of you knee and rest your mag on your hand palm up.Not as stable as the other way but it can be made to work with a little practice.
