A question for hunters and conservation officers,

Can a combination gun be used during rifle season?

That is, if I have no shotgun shells on me and just use the rifle part of the gun, can I use my drilling?

Thanks

Im guessing yes? as long as you don't have any shells on you. Its the same hunting waterfowl and needing steel shot, you have the ability to shoot lead from that gun so the only way to prove your not using lead is to not carry it, I assume since that is good enough, this may be?

Curious, does your "rifle season" actually specify rifles only? Normally when I see rifle season, it really means "use anything you like, but most people will be using rifles"

I got stopped maybe 10 years ago here in Natzi Ontario, had my BRNO 500 series 308/12ga during partridge season, before big game opened, got hassled , but proved I had no 308 on me, so was not charged, just one experiance I had, Dale Z!

Even if you had 308 shells on you, you could have been hunting super big rabbits!:D

Gunsaholic only out West are there rabbits that big they need a 308 to shoot them, LOL! Good to here from my friend in Winnepeg, hows the weather? cheers your friend Dale Z in T-Bay!

When we hunt the rifle hunt second week of November out Bancroft way all the doggers carry combination 22/410. 410 slugs are expensive but get the job done for close quarter deer. And most days they bring home a few partridge/grouse.

i heard out west(bc) that a shot gun is considered a rifle if you have slugs in it!

Maybe if the CO and the Judge where smoking BC Bud they might consider it a rifle.
Seriously though the charge would be something like using a single projectile in a "Shot Only Area"...
My buddy missed a nice 4pt this winter using his Sauer combo gun 6.5x56R over 16gauge:confused: Iron sites at 15 yrds with a head shot the only shot available.
They are fun to shoot and are a cool gun if you find a nice one.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Very Good Question! I think the experience would vary with the Conservation Officer and how cooperative one is perceived to because I do not think the answer is clear amongst all hunters or enforcement staff (as I will do as soon as the government offices open again). I would check with the local enforcers before heading out with a combination gun, especially if you are not wearing big game rifle hunting colors during a rifle season, or if you are hunting migratory fowl or birds and have any "bullets" in your possession. You may not be legal either if you are bird hunting and carrying shotshells with pellets in excess of .23" diameter. Take a lawyer along just in case!
