ComBloc rifle type compared to AR type, pros and cons?

You need to understand doctrine to understand the ComBloc vs. Armalite rifles. Commie doctrine was to have large numbers of troops stringently led by commanders. A full section (8) infanteers would direct their fire at single targets. American infantry are more autonomous (and Canadian even more so), so their platforms demanded greater individual accuracy.

Soviet weapons also tend to be robust for ease of maintenance, while western rifles count upon training to ensure sufficient maintenance to run smooth. Early M16s had a lot of problems, but a modern M4 runs smooth, let alone the piston HK416 or the like.

Thank you guys! I wasn't expecting to get so many replies. 6MT does seem to have the best advice in this discussion because, as everyone else says:
"the differences are very subjective" One of these days, after I am satisfied with building a collection of old milsurps, I will look at getting an AR.

870P I never thought of both eyes open shooting with an sks or vz. I will try it though. Can you elaborate if you have time?

Not sure about the SKS, or the Type 81 for that matter, but with the Kalashnikov and VZ58, they were typically thought of and used as high powered submachineguns rather than proper rifles, individual long range point target accuracy was what the SVD was for.

Shooting with both eyes open is pretty self explanatory, it might be tough to break the habit of closing an eye though.

Cool so 100 meters or closer for the eyes open shoot? Does it require full auto to get the benefit of both eyes open?

Depends on the relative size of the target, if I have to shoot "small", I'll close one eye but otherwise no. Full auto not required comrade!

Man 870 ok I am heading to the storage depot to try aiming with both eyes open.... post again in 10-15 mins.

I was in your shoes one time. Had owned and shot sks, vz, mosin etc....but never shot an AR. Then I bought a stripped lower! Then I bought all the other stuff to put it together. Two years later, I took it to the range. I still wish they could all hang out in the bush! Love them all.
