Combo guns

Here's an expanded pic of the tang. I'd be ticked if they sold this "VG condition" rifle to me w/o disclosure.

There's an outfit in the States called "Save The Fine Guns" that imports firearms from Germany to the US. Lots of drillings and quite a few combination guns. They're not cheap, but it's probably the best place to find and look at combos and drillings.

Their claim to fame is that they buy firearms from people or estates and ship them to the US. Apparently in Germany you need to have a hunting license to own firearms. Once you surrender your license, the firearms have to go. These fellows (one in Germany, the other in Alabama) buy these lots up and then sell them in the US. Generally they will post the photos and details on a group chat on Signal or Telegram and people claim them as they want. No money is due until the guns arrive in the US and are ready to be shipped. So far I just lurk in the chat and haven't bought anything, but it's a great place to pick up a continental 16 gauge from companies like Sauer or Merkel. The majority are post WW2 so potentially less desirable, but there seems to be no shortage of 16ga doubles offered under $1500 US. Worth checking out if for no other reason than to watch the postings.

Fuzzy39. Did your FAIR have single or double triggers? I want a light fast handling gun thats why ive resisted the zh and tikka guns. I prefer double triggers on my sxs guns and single on my ou guns but i think i want double triggers for a combo

This is pretty cool. It would be neat to get some Central European guns to compliment our Nordic ones.

Looking at French and German auctions online can be painful when you see the prices kipplaufs, drillings, small bore doubles and sporterized rifles you can’t find here are going for. If you are a win 1895 nut don’t look at a Finnish one

the hardest part will be to try to import a drilling from france. import to canada is not a problem exporting to EU forever is a big problem: i know a few guys that bypassed it but not worth it in my opinion even for a drilling ..
drilling and combo were the jack of all trades ... so good for everything and nothing. it was great for the hunter that was going on duck or geese in the morning , rabbit hare in the midday, then driven after lunch where you can meet boars and red deer or roe deer ...and duck a la passee again before the night.
i shot my first two roe deer with a drilling 7x65r 2x16 with 1.5-6x42 when my dad passed away i tried to get but too cômplicated but i do not know even what i will use for as it was a lug to load and carry ...

i ve seen a few hunters using them for chamois hunting before moving to a kipplauf ...

I have a couple baikal 3006/12(heavy) and a 6.5x55/12(nice light) that have been using. Starting to like the 6.5 for the weight and seems thinner configuration. Also have a brno zh304 7x57/12 but still have not got to try
