I am interested in a combo gun, but I am having difficulty finding one that is in the calibre/guage that I desire. What I am looking fore is a 16 or 20 ga shot gun for shooting rabbit with a varmint calibre (.222 .223 .243) as the other barrel. Can anyone tell me if a gun like this has been made? All of the combo guns I come across are 12ga and many have .22lr. I want a smaller guage and a centerfire round.
Ideally I would like an o/u combo for 20ga and .223, but any of the mentioned calibres/guages are fine or something similar.

I don't know if you are looking for new or used. Savage made the model 24 in what you are looking for but if you see a used one for sale at a fair price don't sleep on it or it will be gone.

Mine is a Heym 16 ga. over .222 rem. It weighs 6 lbs with the 2-4x scope attached. A perfect come-what-may varmint and small game set up.
Combinaton guns are very popular in Germany and some other European countries. But they are not cheap! Check out the offerings by Heym, Merkel, Blaser, Krieghoff, etc. All offer what you want, but be prepared to bring $$$$ to the deal.
Most modern chamberings are 20 ga, not 16 which is getting a little hard to find. .223 is not as popular as .222 in Europe, but you should be able to find one in .20/.223
As mentioned by someone else, Tradeex might be a good place to look for a used one.

Yeah, if you come across one you have to act fast and be prepared to pay depending on condition and make. I just picked up a "like new" CZ/Brno combo gun off here a few weeks ago. It is 12 over .222. perfect for what I need and, in my opinion, much more gun than a Savage 24.

thanks.

I was looking at tradex, but it appears they have nothing in these chamberings. Should I email them and see if they can find one?
The closest is a 12ga/.222, which I am considering but the 12ga as I said is just a bit too much for rabbit. The purpose of this gun is for rabbit hunting and to provide predator protection for my Beagles. They called in a wolf the other day. I am tired of lugging around my rifle with my shotgun.

Were any of the Savage 24 combos the same as my preferences? I have not yet seen one that matches what I am looking for yet.

Money is not the problem for this gun, but Krieghoffs are a bit out of the range. I was hoping that someone would say that Savages were made in my preference and I could snag one for under $600, but if not I think I could expand my budget a bit if something else fit the bill. Too bad these things are not commonly made anymore.

from the info of an above post it seems that the Savage comes in 20ga/.223 or .222

looks like I'll be hitting up the exchange forum shortly

That's why I got the 12/.222--for coyotes. Buckshot for the close ones and .222 for further away.
