Sorry - Just had to whine, to a crowd of sympathetic ears...

Crossing fingers that today is the day my new M&P .45 gets to come home!!!

;)

the CFO is holding it back, questioning why you'd buy an MP45 instead of... well... anything! they're probably seeing a perfectly good 1911 or revolver out there and scratching their heads...

:p

Just sold a revolver to a CGN'er in Quebec about a week and a half ago... I anticipated a very looooonnnggg transfer time but was surprised when it took less than a week.... I'm now contemplating another pistol purchase, but also preparing myself for the month and change Ontario transfer that would be in my future - SuckS

Why does it take so long for transfers (sometimes)?
My recent experience are as follows...I'm located in the GTA

Last week I bought a non-restricted at Lebaron's and by the time I returned with the proof of purchase from the cashier, the counter guy had a faxed copy of the transfer and off I went with my new rifle.
Monday, called the Ontario CFO to transfer a non-restricted and emailed the buyer in AB the transf#. Within 1/2hr the buyer emailed me back with the approval by the AB CFO.
Again on Monday, called the Ontario CFO for another non-restricted transf. Emailed the transf# to the buyer. Did not hear back from buyer so emailed him Tuesday. Buyer said CFO is now taking up to 10 business days to clear non-restricteds. Is this new?

Does the CFO not have online access indicating I belong to a club, already own non-restricteds and restricteds? If they do...what's the hold up? If they don't...shouldn't they? This could make all lot of people happy. Ok, rant over.

The wait for my 2 new restricteds is painful.

The wait times for non-restricted are not the same as restricted. I hope non-restricted doesn't turn into two week delays as well.

I find in BC the wait for a restricted is about 3 days, 5 at the most. The government has to look like they are actually doing something. Even though firearms go through strict measures to get into the country AND THEY ARE ALREADY REGISTERED AS LEGAL AND BEING TRANSFERED TO SOMEONE WITH A VALID LICENCE there is still a delay. Someone has to have the piece of paper on their desk to make it looks like they are protecting us.

Blows my mind what politicians think will keep us safe.

I'm also waiting for a Ruger Mark II target heavy barrel out of Quebec. The seller wants to wait for the paper to show up which is fine but how long before the gov't puts it in the mail?

No question the M&P45 works like a charm, the trigger is heavy out of the box but that's an easy fix and the accuracy is very good. Mine has fed 200 grn SWC's from day 1 with zero malfunctions of any kind. Even Ken Hackathorn has been seen using one.

Unless Ontario is different, non-restricteds don't go to the provincial CFO's office, only restricted transfers need to be approved provincially. Non-restricteds are handled in Miramichi,NB and are done nearly immediately.

Well I guess we in Ontario are special and different because when I called a week later to get a status, the CFO call taker indicated the Supervisor had put a note on my file that we had spoke and that I should check after 2 wks. I guess he didn't like me asking questions and taking up his valuable time trying to get answers. BTW, this is for a non-restricted .22lr rifle.......

Bought my first pair of restricted in BC. Similar Ruger .22s. I had my LTATT in 24hrs, hard copy came in the mail two days later. One ruger was transferred before I even had my hard copy of the LTATT but the store won't release it (despite speaking to the CFO and confirming that it was indeed transfered) as they haven't received an email or fax yet. CFO says they will fax it "soon". This has been over two weeks. Oddly, the second ruger, bought at the same time, hasn't even been processed yet.

So, I'm in the same store the other day and drooling over a beauty of a .45, so I scrape some cash, sell the dog, put the wife on ebay and buy it. Next morning, the store calls and says come and pick up your pistol, we just got the paper on it.

I rush down, expecting to take my weeks-old ruger home. NOPE. It's the damn .45. WTH?

Still waiting on the .22s...

I ordered a new pistol from Frontier Firearms, paid for last Wednesday and still waiting for a transfer a week later. I hope it won't be much longer...but then again I'll still have to wait for Canada Post to bring it to me.

Did you just say "heavy"??

I guess it depends on what you get used to... I was frightened when the initial pull felt like gravel, but after a cleaning, it is actually far better than I feared. Of course, I have been yanking on a 5946 for a few years...
