The Bren light machine gun was built in Toronto, the first of 186,000 guns were completed in March 1940. This Bren saw action in WW2 at Juno Beach and later in the Korean war. The Bren gun was a series of light machine guns (LMG) made by Britain in the 1930s and used in various roles until 1992. While best known for its role as the British and Commonwealth forces' primary infantry LMG in World War II, it was also used in the Korean War and saw service throughout the latter half of the 20th century, including the 1982 Falklands War. Although fitted with a bipod, it could also be mounted on a tripod or be vehicle-mounted. By 1943, 60 per cent of all Bren Gun production took place in Canada at Long Branch.

At Uxbridge Arms, we have a 1943 Long Branch Bren on display in our store during regular business hours. This gun was professionally deactivated many years ago and you may ask the staff to get your picture taken while holding the famous Bren!

What a beautiful Inglis. Wish I lived close by to get a pic with that beauty.

Corporal Walter Williams bren gunner, my grandfather, recovering in England after being wounded D-Day+4. First wave of Canadians to land. Many of the men he trained with didn't make it out of the landing craft. The lady on the left is the Queen Mother. Very proud of him and all my grandparents. They were a different breed of people. Hardy, hard working and happy. I miss them.

Such a cool picture and terrific legacy to remember. A different breed is right....We called them the greatest generation for good reason! I was raised surrounded by veterans including my Dad, grandfathers and all my uncles. Lest we forget šŸ
