What method do you use to hold small binos? When I hiked to a spot I wanted to sit and glass I always wished I could figure out a way to hold my small binocular steady without holding my arms up. I've tried to come up with a little contraption that would hold them steady while sitting on the ground in a more relaxed position.

If you wear a ball cap, you can put 3 fingers of each hand on top of the brim & clamp the binos with your thumbs on the bottom to give a steady hold. ORRR ( my preferred method) is to push your elbows in so they are tucked to rest on your ribs/ stomach whilst holding the binos. This is quite comfortable & very stable even with heavier binos for a prolonged time. Your arms will not tire in this position.

Tuck your elbows in until your forearms are basically parallel, and press your upper arms into your ribs. You can also press your thumbs up under your cheekbones for a little more stability.

I've used the "peak pinch" method with a ballcap to stabilize, as well my Allen shooting stick (which doubles as a trekking pole) has the same thread as my Vortex bino tripod mount so I can just plop my Diamondback HDs on it for some extra stability in the field.

Man, I love that dumb monopod/trekking pole/shooting stick.

another vote for the Allen monopod
I have the short version and more often than once wanted the longer but got by.

Clamping the arms into the ribcage only transfers heart beats and breathing motion, need to isolate

when you have no other means other than 'free style': right thumb under right eyepiece; left thumb under left eyepiece ... your two index fingers above the eyepieces ..but the index fingers should be slightly forward so that your brow is pushing lightly against your index fingers. The stability comes from your index fingers against your brow. Another reason I prefer porroprism because the dogleg of the prisms sits in the cups of your palms when holding your binoculars in this fashion.

What magnification are the binos?
Usually anything over a seven or eight power gets shaky due to holding it by hand.
Literally every vibration and shaking from your body will be magnified and shown in viewing using a ten power by hand.

Anything over a 7x or an 8x and it is best to monopod it or ground it, using something solid or lean it against an object like a tree limb or a truck hood.
