Is there any gun manufacturer besides colt and are available in Canada that makes a commander/officer sized 1911 in 9mm or 38 super ? 4.25 or 4.5 inch barrel and slide.

Or....are there parts available to build one out of a colt commander .45 ?

Regards,
Buddy

The STI Ranger II was just recently announced to open it's calibers up to 9mm, 38 super and 40 S&W.

I don't have any in stock yet, we're looking at mid February for delivery.
(45ACPs should be in next week)

Richard, thanks for the reply, correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Norinco Commander only come in .45 ?

Also thanks for the heads up Sean, I always liked the Ranger but didn't know it came in anything other than .45.

I have a Norinco commander in 9/38 super on a separate top end and the factory one is 45.. want it?

:D

Funkiest gun I ever built. Still find myself wishing it was still in the safe.

For those wondering, the factory .45 slide was milled to use the .38 super ejector and the slide stop was altered to not lock back so it's a true swap and play gun.

Slide stop altered to not lock back? Forgive my ignorance but why?

I assume the slide stays open after last round?

1) Many IPSC shooters don't want to be worried about a premature lock back, so they shock buff or drill a detent to keep the slide stop from moving except under finger pressure. Immediate action drills always worked better for me in that form

2) The lobe is slightly longer on some .38Super slide stops, so it could create a problem when used for the .45. Carving it back a bit so it NEVER makes contact with the mag follower meant only one slide stop, not two for the three caliber set up.

Dropping a .40 or .38S/9mm top end onto a .45 bottom is one of my favourite things to do :) A good way is to use a .38 ejector that has been slimmed by about .030" so as not to scrape on the .45 slide. Nicer than modifying the slide as this way you could drop on any slide at will. I've never had a problem with slide stops, and these lock back with all calibers, as long as the correct recoil springs are used. One bottom end can accommodate .45ACP, .400 Cor-Bon, .40Super, .45-08 Armco, .460 Rowland, and .38 Casull, and .38 Special Wadcutter, all on the .45 slide. Drop on the .40/10mm slide, and now you can run .30 Luger, 9mm, .38Super, 9x21, 9x23, .40, 10mm, .30 Armco, and a few wildcats :) The .38 Special needs a specially tuned extractor, and of course most of them need a barrel and magazine swap. And, let's not forget the .22 conversions. :)
