I finally got a chance to fondle some guns in Winnipeg last week at both Cabelas and WSS (night and day service, but that is for another post).

I really, really liked the Winchester EW, fit and finish were nice. Same as the Featherweight SS.

X-Bolt felt like a kids toy in my hands. Small, flimsy and not finished that well.

Tikka T3 was not bad, just cannot get my mind past the plastic and the small ejection port........

The CZ 550 was very nice, but they do not make it in the caliber's I am looking for nor in SS

Both stores did not have any Marlin XS7 or Sako A7's to try out

One rifle that fit me was the Rem CDL in wood/blued, but the action was rough and the barrel channel was touching the barrel in two spots......

So that brings me my question.

Has anybody shot/own an Rem LSS Mountain rifle??? Are they a nice rifle to handle?? Shoot?? How has the craftsmanship been??

Any and all comments welcome.

Cheers

I like my Rem 700 Mtn LSS in 30-06. It's load right now is 165gr Accubond going 2850 fps. It shoots between 0.8 to 1.2 inches at 100 yards, and that is great for a mountain rifle. I carried it a couple days hunting this year, but didn't take any game with it.

I really like it, and I may be so frivalous as to get another in .280 or .270.

IMHO the LSS is one of Remington's better offerings. For 2012 they are offering the LSS as a Bell & Carlson synthetic stock model, sort of a faux Ti.It looks interesting. Mur

I had an old Mountain Rifle - blued/wood - and while I cannot comment on today's fit/finish, I can say that for me the stock design caused quite a bit of felt recoil. I was shooting a .270 Win. I don't know what it was because the .270 isn't exactly heavy in the recoil department. The narrow stock just seemed to dig in. Having said that, the new ones have a nice recoil pad, while the old ones had a hockey puck.

I have a T3 Lite in .338 Win Mag now and I have to say that I prefer it to the Mountain Rifle. It shoots very well and is substantially lighter too. With Millet mounts and an FX-II 2.5x it weighs in at 6.5lbs. You also have a better choice of chamberings. YMMV.
