commercial 7x57's

Here's mine, a BRNO 22F 7x57 made in 1949

In the 2007 hunting regulations booklet, it is states on page 71 under the small game regulations:

The holder of a small game license may not use a rifle of greater caliber than .275, except a flintlock or percussion cap muzzle-loading gun, for hunting small game in the counties of Brant, Elgin, Essex, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Northumberland, Oxford, Perth and Wellington and the regional municipalities of Chatham/Kent, Durham, Haldimand-Norfolk, Halton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and York and the City of Toronto.

Is .275 greater than .275? Its right on the edge of the limit which is why I wanted it clarified. 7.00mm = .2755 cal. A pseudonym of 7x57mm Mauser is .275 Rigby.

Yes the bullet is .283 but the bullet is .277 for 270 Winchester.

In any case, I have it in writing from the ministry.

That is what the regs say, but it does not refer to names, nick-names or marketing titles, it refers to "caliber".

No mater what you call your 7x57 it is still a.284 caliber.

That "written confirmation from the MNR" will not protect you!

In that case, WTF is the point of having an MNR? Sorry .270 WIN guys, no more shooting in Southern Ontario...

Anyhow, I'm building a 6.5x55mm sporter ;) A little more flexible for hunting the smaller critters at long range.

OK now, if all you Ontario guys don't mind us get back to discussing rifles instead of your regulations....
Doug, yes, they are the BRNO quick release skeleton mount / rings. I'd never seen them either until I bought this rifle. They can be removed / replaced by using fingers to turn the serrated knobs and will return to zero.

back to Longwalker........

Very interesting indeed. Do they actually return to zero as they are supposed to do? And is that scope specifically made for them, like the Balvar A scopes that were for the specific mounts/rings?

A simple search on this site would clear up your misconceptions

I have the Talley QD rings on a ZKK601, they also fit the older 22F. I find that the original ringmounts and the Talleys will both return to zero (close enough that I can't tell with careful benchrest shooting). Probably stay within less than 1/4" variation.
The scope is a Meopta 3x, with a 1" tube. You could say it is specific to this rifle 'cuz it has such a small ocular lens and no other scope that I have found has a small enough ocular bell to clear the bolt handle. It is an OK scope, and right for the period, but I'd like to replace it with something waterproof. I don't want to modify the bolt handle. Any suggestions?

You've got to be kidding?

The next time I conceal carry in Canada, I guess I have present evidence from CGN instead of an official government agency ;)

Well than, where is that 275 measured from? is it the bullet? is it the bore? is it between the lands or grooves?
The answer lies in the search function, and once again, would fully explain it to you with links.

For example, you can get a 55 gr Accellerator for a 30-30, but its still over the caliber restriction in some areas of ontario... Why? Its a 30 caliber bore.
Its not the bullet... so thats out of the equation
Which... rules out your letter...
now, one would assume it has to do with the bore than right?

It would be great if Tikka would put the T3 out in 7x57, and for that matter Ruger could also chamber the Hawkeye in it.

Sorry for interupting the discussion of inane Ontario hunting regs.
