Doe's anyone out there know of any commercial "pure lead" supplier's in Central Ontario. Ottawa-Bellville- Pembroke area. Linotype or mixed 20-1 ratio??

After 44 years of casting I finally hit on some Zinc. It was a nightmare. For the price of wheelweights I am quite willing to pay full-bore for the refined stuff;

if it exists. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. I had to throw out a full pot. I have 2000lbs wheelweights sitting in the backyard and I sit here wondering

how much is "ROTTON". Casting season will soon be here; I hope.

There is a pure lead supplier in Burlington, but its close to $2 a pound for pure and goes up from there

Try Canada Metals(eastern) limited, they are near Montreal

Keep your melt under 700F and the zinc and steel weights will float to the top.

I smelt WW's on an electric hot plate I got from Canadian Tire for $20. It's hot enough to melt lead but the zinc ones just float and can be picked out like the iron ones.
I was looking into some pure lead for casting minni balls for my muzzle loader but gave up when I saw the prices. After shipping it was near $4/lbs. Would be similar for any kind of lead alloy.

I think you can sort the WW's by dropping them on a cement floor, the lead ones land with a thud while the non lead ones have ring to them

That's how I do it korky but I've only had to sort through 150lbs

I had a chance to buy some pure lead from a mine.... but the price doubled overnight, and I simply couldn't afford $0.50/lb as I would have to buy all 18000lbs


and my wife would NOT lend me $9000
