I picked up a collection, there a quite a few rifles I am not familiar with. There is no indications to me that its a military sporter so I believe it was a commercial sale. I found one online that had a similar SN so it may have been made around 1914. Any thoughts or information, approx. value would be appreciated. Thanks !

It is a commercial Mauser Oberndorf model C. Nice find.

Thank you. I was able to google the name and found a discussion on Gunboards, apparently it was a entry model, most were modified, not many exist anymore, not well known, somewhat rare. The suggestion was the SN ended in the 70ks, so it looks like that number is higher as this one is 88K. Thats the jest of what I found. Can you add anything ? Any idea on value ?

The Swedish ones in similar condition can be had for about $350. Yours is probably worth a little more than that. Maybe 500-600 if you can find the right buyer. BTW, dies and brass can be found for that at places like Intersurplus. I'm not sure if factory ammo is still available in North America, but I have seen some old Norma, and maybe Prvi stuff around at gun shows.

I've heard of people using modern 358 cal bullets. Can the difference between 356 and 358 really create dangerous pressures? Plenty of 308 bore 7.62x39 and 54r out there

Could you also not just change the expander ball etc in 8x57 dies?
