I have an old SGW AR15 with a solid stock that I want to covert to a collapsible stock. This means a new buffer tube.

I can buy a new stock assembly that includes the buffer tube, spring, buffer, etc. It says it is "commercial size". Will this fit the SGW? I assume it is milspec, but I don't know.

Is "commercial size" a reference to the tube and the stock? or does it refer to the compatibility of the tube and the receiver?

Commercial and Milspec differ in gauge of metal and profile/shape, and have different diameters and take different buttstocks, so you need to know which one you're getting.

Milspec is heavier duty, commercial much more common and therefore usually easier to find bits for.

The thread to the lower is the same, so they will fit lowers interchangeably.

You probably need one each of the buffer, spring, yoke, castle nut, and buffer tube to do the switch.

The tubes are different, the spring and buffer are the same. I say go with milspec as its true to the tdp and in a pinch a commercial spec stock will fit, albeit a bit loose.

I don't think it matters if you only have one rifle.
I always go with Milspec, the only reason is that they are all the same on all my rifles and I can switch stocks if I want or put on a different one if I sell one.
It's just nice when you have multiple rifles and parts all swap over easily from one to the other.

I found a deal ($40) on a complete adjustable butt, with buffer tube, spring, etc., but it is a commercial. My concern was "Will it fit a SGW? Sounds like the answer is "Yes", so I am GTG.

Thanks, guys.

CGN is a wonderful resource. between all of us, we know just about everything.
