Looking to put a friendly comp on the 10.5 i have coming in...anyone using the griffin? Looks cool...and reviews are good. Anything else i should be looking at?

if you can find a surefire mb556k, get it and dont look back! If you cant find one, check out the DD muzzle climb brake....its been the closest thing i could find that felt like my old surefire.

Friendly comp? All you need is a loudener my friend :p

I had the miculek on two different AR's (armalites in 16 and 14.5)...very nice...but I have to be honest...my sti factory comp (nordic) is much more efficient. IT is set up about as good as it gets.

A while back one of the guys here posted something to the effect that the best way of dealing with the hellish recoil of .223 was to stuff a maxi-pad under your bra strap. I thought it was hilarious.

I was looking at getting a comp while I had my 10.5" Norc on order, but after I got it and shot it some, I decided not to bother; it wasn't as loud as I had expected, and the recoil was non-existent, at least relative to the milsurps I usually shoot. I do like the looks of the Noveske Pig and the Dlask clone, though, and might get around to getting one of those eventually...

The only thing I recommend for a 10.5 length AR15 is a Troy Claymore or a Noveske KX3. Open ported brakes are not needed for a 10.5, and they just make it louder, with a huge muzzle flash. (rattle your teeth loud)

The claymore on the KX3 push the blast forward for a reason: To lessen the noise and felt blast to shooters close by. Open brakes like the surefire MB556K and linear brakes push the blast to the guys sitting next to you on the line.

I have the DPMS Levang Linear on my 7.5 and 10.5. It's cost effective and directs the blast forward to save your ears and the ears of those around you :) The only drawback is it creates a little more muzzle flash than I'd like under low light conditions. Cheers!

The purpose of most of these comps is not really to mitigate recoil but to deal with muzzle climb. Generally in a comp on an AR style rifle I am looking for something that allows faster follow up shots.

I have a PRI comp on my 14.5" and a KX3 on my 12.5. The PRI comp lets me shoot faster with quicker follow up shots.

Most of my shooting isn't doen on a line so i don't really care about that. Having said that, the KX3 does make it easier to shoot off a bench or under a tin roof!

What he said..recoil is not why i want it...i want it to stay on target for quick follow up shots.

are you looking just for function? or do you want to give it a more unique and personal look?

I have quite a few different comps/brakes on my rifles and my 3 favorites for anything 7.5 - 12.5 are the Troy Claymore, PWS Diablo, and the KX3 (or XB1)....
