I'm looking for a small, compact scope for a lightweight .22 rifle. About the only thing I've been able to find so far is the Leopold rimfire FX or VX. The size is right - about 8 oz and a 28mm objective lens, but the Leopold is a bit costly for this particular application.

Anyone know of any other possibilities out there? (I could make do with a 4x, but would prefer something that goes up to maybe 7x, like the VX.)

Thanks.

Hi,

Weaver makes a quality rimfire scope that's quite a bit less expensive than the Leupold. I have the 4X Weaver on my Anschutz .22 sporter and like it.

Keep your eyes open for an old 3/4" tube Redfield. I know they don't make them anymore, but now and then a used one turns up. They're very light and compact, and the optics are amazingly good. I have one with the post/crossbar reticle. It weighs almost nothing, and it's perfectly scaled to smaller .22s. If you see one, don't pass it up!

Of course there were always the old "C" and "D" Weavers, but you might as well be squinting through a dirty Coke bottle....

Thanks, Ron & Tumbleweed. Those are good leads. The Weaver sounds like it might be easier to get, since they're still in production. I've never seen any Canadian retailers that sell them, though. If you know somebody who does, please let me know.

Hi there, you are overlooking the fine burris USA made, not phillipines, which is as good as leupold. In fact I have been using them for years, on five 22,s. There small dainty size, and a lot less than leupold, with the same lifetime fact. warranty, no matter if your not the orig. owner. I have a few extra of these, only slighty used for 150 if your interested. These are a high quality compact RIFLE scope, in fact I have one on a lite weight 270 mountain rifle. Cheers, Bryan (win 22)

I've also got one of the Weaver Classic Rimfire 4Xs.... I quite like it. It's fairly compact even on a 10/22.

I picked mine up at Wholesale Sports here in Calgary.

the real compact rimfire is the old bushnell 22 mm objective with the wierd rail mount- either 3x7 or 4x
