I have "big" guns. But I have a hankering for a small gun, sized appropriately for 9mm. Short grip, single stack, 4.2" barrel. What's available out there? I wouldn't mind the same in .40 if there was no size/weight penalty.

Not looking for anything fancy, must be priced reasonably, and I'm certainly not opposed to Norcs!

Thanks, guys!

It’s not a single-stack, but consider the Gen 4 Canadian Edition. It’s inexpensive relative to some other options, available, and quite thin. It’s also easy to customize.

1911s with a 4.2” barrel and an officers frame are fantastic - I’ve got one in .45 - but not super easy to find in 9mm. I’d like to get a 9mm As well, but I’m not interested in a Nighthawk or Wilson Combat (well, I am, but only if I win the lottery...).

norc does the np17.....9mm, short grip, single stack, cheap price, 4.4 inch barrel and new under 3 bills. Probably a fun plinker. Seems to meet the OP criteria

when my urge for a smaller pistol hit me i picked up a SAM Tactical which is a Commander sized 1911.
really like it.
i then picked up a Ruger SR1911 CMD which is again the commander sized 1911.

since i was experimenting i picked up a Glock 19 and likes that as well.

i wanted to go as small as i could so i picked up a S&W M&P 9C.
again, really like it.
i have also seen the same but in the 40C floating around up here.
the 40C is what i wanted to get initially but there was none for sale when i was looking and a 9C was.
i figured with the 40C i could pick up a 9mm barrel and shoot both.
could probably do the same with the 9C and pick up a 40 barrel but usually they make the 40's a little tuffer so downgrading to a 9mm is ok but going up from a 9 to a 40 usually isnt suggested.... meh?

my dad picked up a SAM Officer sized 1911 and that is pretty neat too.
keep in mind they all have the barrel sticking out which some people dont like.

if you want some pics just say the word, i have some pics already uploaded into my bucket.

I love my 229, the barrel only extends 1/4" and looks like it belongs there, but it's double stack. Another one if you can find it is a Smith 39 that has been converted to restricted. They are single stack and are actually a very sweet gun to shoot, and you can still get smith mags for them

The Gen 4 is interesting. Never considered a Glock, but maybe I should. Not opposed to having another .45 around either. I like the cartridge; was thinking that the nines might be a little more compact, but maybe not. How long is the Officer frame grip?

That's kind of neat. Had a full size one; had a heavy trigger, but seemed to be a pretty rugged gun, and worked well when I wasn't pulling it off target.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em' coming!

Another vote for Glock G19 Gen.4 Canadian edition. Retails for $710, a little more if you opt for the night sights (excellent upgrade)

for what your OP says youd be looking more so for the M&P 9C which is the smallest 9mm i have.
irunguns brings them in with the barrels all ready in them for a LOT cheaper then some of the other places i have seen them listed at (almost half the price of what i currently see them listed at)

the Glock 19 is bigger but still compact.
the new 19 Canadian might fit the bill for ya, if you can flesh one of those out not only would you get a super nice gun but they are pretty much collectors editions too boot.

Looks good! Thanks! How does the M&P 9C compare with the Glock 19? Grip seems to be a bit shorter on the M&P?

Are those prices actually Canadian dollar on the IRG website? I clicked on the Canadian store but it still lists everything USD.
