I think there is an shortage of STURDY and compact high quality scopes in the recent market.
What I have in mind is straight 3x20mm or 4x20mm power 1" main straight tube (32mm objective is redundant in this magnification and adds weight), under 10" long and under 10oz and 3.5"+ ER.
Does anybody is aware of such animal being available on the market lately?

What kind of gun and at what range to you plan to shoot?

Leupold is about the smallest and lightest I've been able to find. The FX-i 4x28mm would be almost perfect, albeit that its designated as a rimfire scope because parallax is set to 60 yards. If you wanted to have the parallax adjusted to 100 Yards like most centrefire scopes, I have heard that Korth Group (Leupold Canadian distributor, located in Okotoks) would be able to adjust the parallax for you if you so desire.

I shoot rimfire rifles exclusively and I happen to have the VX-1 2-7x28mm Rimfire and I love it. Its also under 10" long very lightweight. Generally speaking, rimfire scopes from reputable brands like Leupold are built just as tough as their centre fire scopes, just with parallax adjusted to shorter ranges. It has nothing to do with the quality of the build.

I have LH Ruger MII in 7-08 and since it fits me so well I decided to make another barrel in 358W for it.
My sight currently is Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5x20mm scope, perfect for my needs but last week I lost my balance on the mountain and as a result the ocular is bent and power ring is stuck solid at 3x.
I think that shouldn't happen to the scope b/c rifle did drop from 2-3ft only on some wood branches....Leupold could probably take the abuse and steel Weaver scope would pass the test with flying colours IMHO.

Well, abuse of that scope is evident and I don't think that this can be warranted by any company.

Acutally Zeiss gives a 5 year NO Fault replacement or repair policy, on top of their lifetime transferable warranty. Break it during "NORMAL" use IE hunting riflescope for hunting in a mountain = normal use, within 5 years (and registered within 60 days of purchase) they will replace or repair when you break it.

There's a nikon rep around here somewhere I'm sure he will chime in, or you could msg him and ask yourself if it would be warrantied.

Cabelas is advertising Nikon scopes as having a NO FAULT warranty. I'm looking at the add right now.
I just bought a nikon tho (from reliable gun) and found no such warranty statement in the box. Lifetime yes... Doesn't say NO FAULT anywhere. I'd send Nikon Travis M a message and see what they can/can't do for you.

I knew I read it somewhere!

Well, this is a good news....kind of....
I used masking tape in front part of scope chucked it in my lathe (gently) and installed the indicator....hmm....a .165" difference between highest and lowest reading.
Marked the highest point with chalk, put it in my barrel vise (gently) under PVC 1" bushing and started to straighten it by hand....
Fourth time was the charm and now the scope ocular is within .010" off perfect but the power ring works like new again.
When zeroing the scope yesterday with the same rings I found the rifle hitting 2" low instead 3" high so after correction the rifle shoots as accurately as before,
3/4" at 100m with 308 Win Lapua brass necked down WLR primer 139gr Hornady GMX bullet (COAL 2.940") and 47gr of 47SL-10 surplus powder.
Over all I am happy and hope that the scope holds for the rest of the hunting season and then some more....
Thanks; GR8

Thank you bsand,
I have newer realized that Nikon warranty is as good as Leupold's for instance.
If my scope gives me any problem, any at all in the future I most likely will use that extra assurance but in this instance my inner voice told me not to abuse my "rights".

No problem, but there's abusing it (IE sending it in every year for a new one) VS what happened to you (properly used, unfortunate accident) which is EXACTLY why they created the policy.. You are NOT abusing it, but rather holding them to their guarantee..
