Compact scope - Ruger 10/22 Take Down

4) Nikon P22 2-7x32 rimfire
Pros: Nikon quality glass at reasonable price

Cons: no A/O, not stocked in any LGS so can't evaluate, size a bit bigger than would prefer although some say it will sorta fit in the t/d bag with scope mounted.

Just a heads up, this scope has been rebranded P-Rimfire 2-7x32. Out west not many P-22's still around.

Good to know. I'm sure I'd like this scope since I already love my Nikon 3-9x40 Prostaff Rimfire Target EFR, but can't find the P-Rimfire locally in stores anywhere in the Calgary area to actually look at it. However, the pictures I see online of them mounted on 10/22's make the scope simply look too big for my particular application. Now if they would only Nikon would come out with a rimfire variant of the P223 3x32; I'd be really interested in that.

By the way, there was a Nikon rep behind the gun counter at Bass Pro an Saturday a couple weeks ago. Was that you, by chance?

Depends which weekend, might have been me or my local Pro Staffer as we did three weekends. I did two of them. :) Aforementioned Bass Pro should have the P-Rimfire shortly. There's a spot for it on the shelf.

Check out the new Burris Droptine 22 2-7x32. Just bought one from Wholesale in Calgary because I wanted a compact scope for my 22. So far pretty impressed. Only cost $180 or so.

Was at a different LGS last night. Looked through the Leupold again and thought - "wow that's nice". But their price is $17 more than the other place.

Then the guy pulls out the Vortex Spitfire prism sights. One in 1x, the other was 3x. Yes, I know these are made for an AR, but wow....talk about clear, sharp glass. One of my turn-offs with most RDS is the slight green or blue haze on the glass, which is necessary for the dot to appear. Not so with a prism sight, which really is like a compact, illuminated scope which apparently is also parallax-free. Only downsides to these Spitfire sights is the weight, and cost. The 3x is heavy and expensive - $400. But, it includes mounts.

More for me to think about over the long weekend...

That looks like a nice scope, but it is still 11.5" long so still a bit bigger than I'd prefer. The Nikon P22 is approximately that size and price, so if I was going that big, I'd probably lean towards the Nikon.

For what you're looking to do with the gun I wouldn't worry about the parallax. I run a 4-12 vortex diamondback on my .22. Not really a scope intended for a rimfire but it works quite well. I have no issues hitting small targets inside of 50 yards. I really doubt that all but serious target shooters would notice a difference.

OK -its decision time.

I've narrowed it down to two - the Leupold VX-1 2-7 or the Vortex Spitfire 3x prism scope. Both are considerably more expensive than I originally planned, but I could see keeping either one for a long time, possibly even moving between different guns.

Right now, I'm really digging the Vortex 3x. Yes, I know it's designed for AR, and I'll probably get a 223 black rifle someday, but I really like it's size, lighted reticle, and look.

Am I crazy to think about picking the Vortex over a Leupold traditional scope?

I used a 3200 Bushnell 2-7x32. I doesn't fit in the bag installed on the rifle but with the awesome UTG detachable rings it's back to zero everytime!

Bumping an old thread but was there ever a decision made here. I'm in the same boat trying to figure out what I can use that will keep it baggable.

Not sure what route he took but I put a Nikon P-223 on mine. I've never noticed any parallax issues.

Ruger 10-22 compact not a take down

Hey what did you end up buying??

I'm about to purchase my first firearm and ive decided to get the 10 22 take (not sure if I should to get the black heavy barrel or regular) but I'm not sure what scope to get.

I like the UTG Bug Buster, any thoughts?

I put an el cheapo red dot (Tasco) on my takedown. It is my new combine/tractor/swather/truck .22, so I needn't worry about making any 1000 yd. shots. Just bought a Barska AC10650 (on sale at ######'s for 1/2 price of $59.95). Might try it on some of my other .22's. I am finding it somewhat blurry trying to focus on the rear open sights these days.

The takedown will mostly get used for skunks, racoons, and ravens - if I ever get a chance to take a shot at one! :)
