I just got some 7mm - .284 cast 145 grain bullets from another nut here and am wondering if anyone knows the hardness of these? The box is labeled "competition bullets inc., edmonton" and says it's "Mag" alloy.

I've got pretty good google skills but there's no hits on any company in edmonton (or anywhere else) by this name. I am wondering if anyone remembers them and knows what hardness their Mag alloy was? Just want to know how hard I can try to push them with a good lube.

The fit of the bullet to the bore is more important then the hardness, is the bullet gas checked? I'm experimenting with 7mm bullets and so far best accuracy is at 1600fps, which mirrors my results with .30 Cal. bullets, where best accuracy has come at under 2000fps. Many .30 cal. groups are 1/2" or less at those speeds and using quite hard(BHN22) gas checked bullets.

What are your thoughts on shooting cast (centre fire) .22 bullets?

yes, GC, sized to 284. I have a savage 110 in 7mag and I haven't slugged the barrel yet either. The price was too good not to take the risk. I bought them to get some trigger time on gophers. I was hoping to use IMR4895 in the low 2000's with them (maybe a dacron puff for filler) but if I have to go down to the 1600's I will likely need to scrounge for some pistol powder - unique or maybe one of the dots. Not easy to pick up my choice of powder right now - selection very limited. Anymore thoughts on this would be very welcome, Ben.
