Hey guys,

I'm just curious if anyone shoots competitions with an un-modified or modified Savage Model 12 F Class or a Model 12 Bench Rest in 6.5 x 284 Norma?

If you do, and it is modified, what did you do to it?

I'm curious because Savage claims that's what they are designed for... And I'm thinking that a 6.5 x 284 would make a good addition to my cabinet...

Thanks!

There were several in FTR at the US Nationals last Sept. Of course, there is Team Savage.

But in open, it has more to do with the competitiveness of the chamberings offered.

also, factory barrels are a variable. Sub MOA pretty much a given. Sub 1/2 min, not so sure.

Depends on what level of competition and distance you want to play in. I have helped beginners with factory Savage rifles and they did very well WITHIN THE CAPABILITIES OF THE RIFLE.

It would quite a unique factory barrel that can compete and beat full meal deal builds or rebarreled Savage's.

We have seen several of these rifles in .308 F-tr competition locally at Bull Meadows, and they have all shot fairly well. Certainly well enough for shooters to catch the long range shooting bug. That being said, all the ones that I can recall have been bedded, and then re barreled after the first season.

starting out YES you can use it, then you will want to bed it (should anyway) then re barrel it later. I had one in 308 nice rifle for the money and the action is nicely made.
