Competitive Precision Shooting Intro Clinic... Photos

If you don't have club rifles for training purposes, you can ask the students to bring their own rifle if they happen to have an accurate rifle with a target scope. Those that do would be the best prospects to attend a clinic, anyway.
Your volunteer coaches can bring rifles and ammo, too. We (the ORA) does al the intro training at 300 yards. 223 rifles work very well for training and are great at 300 yards. We use ivi or el cheapo 55 gr.
One thing to watch out for. newbies have a big problem getting a sight picture with a powerful scope. We use 10X on the club rifles for this purpose. 15X is about max for a newbie.
In the winter (I know you don't have this problem in beautifil BC) we run clinics in the winter in the class on relaoding, scope use, wind doping, etc.

I have not spoken with the folks at Mission yet , but I can see us trying to host one in Kamloops AND Mission - hopefully.

Kamloops is actually the birthplace of F-Class shooting and yes, we are lucky to have some outstanding f-class shooters. Tom Fripp, Jim Benge, Mark Anderson, Dave Assmus, Art Bourne, Richard Dreger, Barry Prost, Marc Thibault, Paul Reibin. I have learned something from every one of these guys. It is a great place to shoot, and everyone comes away all the wiser!

We don't have any intro clinics per se, but most of us are very happy to arrange to help newbies along. Drop me a pm if you are interested and I'll be glad to keep you in the loop with what's coming up. I've got a .223 all set up and ready to help another one get hooked! Where are you located?
I am encouraged by the fact that there is clearly enough interest. The plan is to wait until Mission and Kamloops announce their shooting schedules for the next season. I will organize these clinics for the period before the first shoots of the season (The generally occur in the Spring). I have a number of F-Class shooters that have volunteered to come out and be mentors/coaches for the day as well. They have even offered to bring out their match rifles for folks to try, so these promise to be really fun days!
For those with access to Kamloops, The KTSA has a "Winter League" in which they hold fun F-CLass 300M shoots every Sunday; These typically start in December. For those that would like to try dropping in and giving this sort of shooting a try, this is also a great venue! They are informal and they are fun! I think it is fair to say that the Kamloops shooters are always absolutely thrilled to welcome new shooters and you can count on having all the help in the world if you want to try this shooting.

Hi Abman, I see that Matt has already answered you. I'll throw in my two cents too...
Firstly, any and every shooting event that the RNBRA runs can serve as your personal introduction to long rane or precision shooting. Many people seem to be turned off by the fact that we call them "matches"; they are, and we try to shoot our very best, but we always have time and attention for new shooters. Especially if you make contact ahead of time, you can get (if you want) as much or as little 1-on-1 coaching as you desire.
Secondly, new for 2009, we will be running several "circle shooting" training sessions, which are oriented toward developing personal and team shooting skills.
Thirdly, I might run some kind of "intro training day", either through the RNBRA or FRSA (Springfield range). A couple of weeks ago I ran a "600m intro day" at Springfield, and had five very happy customers. We had enough fun that I am more than willing to do something like this again.
Let me know what you are interested in, either online or privately, and I can probably put together something that will be interesting to you, to others and to me. Classroom only, range only, or both - your call! (I have run several classroom sessions on shooting and reloading in the local microbrewery's tasting room - "hold my beer and watch how I clean a rifle" - how's that for cachet? ;-)

I am definitely interested in precision shooting and not intimated by competition/matches (not saying I'm any good). I shoot primarily IPSC and PPC when opportunity arises. I'm a wimp in cold winter weather and have to put some loads together for rifle.
I may be able to scare up a couple of guys down this neck of woods (Saint John - Sussex) to take in a "intro training day". I'll get back to you via PM after talking to a few of the boys.

Yeah, I know this is an old thread but I just came across it while looking for something else. I'm interested in this and would like to attend. I'll keep my "ear to the ground" via subscription to this thread ! 
We are tentatively looking at April 5th in KAMLOOPS. The date has not been finalized, but it is what we are shooting for.
Our clinic will consist of the following...
In the morning we will be discussing the safety, etiquette and general overview of the types of precision fullbore shooting. (Primarily F-class and its sub groups as well as TR)
We will discuss the rules, scoring and equipment, as well as some shooting tips.
The majority of the day will be devoted to a "Mini-match" conducted to ICFRA rules, on ICFRA targets. Shooters will be assited and coached by a highly experienced competitive shooter volunteer, and each shooter will have the opportunity of being a target marker as well.
We expect that at the end of this 1-day clinic, you will know hwere and how to sign-up for a fullbore shooting competition and know what you will need to know to not only have fun, but do it safely and confidently!
Some of our volunteers have offered to let you try shooting some of their full-on custom rigs as well.
We will be publishing more info as it becomes available as well as a "what to bring" list. We will try and help out as much as possible with loaners of some equipment so as to avoid the need to spend a whole bunch of money for this clinic.
I will answer any questions you may have, but again, the date is only tentative at this point.
