For those that were not aware, the BCRA and Kamloops Target Sports Association are conducting a 1-day clinic to introduce shooters to competitive rifle shooting. The emphasis will be on F-CLass shooting, which involves competing with a centerfire rifle, scope and a bipod/rest.

This incredibly fun sport was started by a Kamloops shooter 20 years ago, and has grown into a world-wide phenomenon.

If you have thought that you would like to try getting involved in competitive shooting, but haven't a clue where to get started, THIS is the clinic for you!

We will be teaching all about the various disciplines, but with an emphasis on F-Class. We will then conduct a mini-match where you will have the opportunity to shoot under match conditions, but with the bonus of one-on-one mentoring.

We will also have examples of some of the more exotic firearms that are used in some competition for you to try.

We are almost full, but we have spaces open. Check it out!

If you would like to participate or have any questions, please contact Ian at riflebarrels@telus.net

Hats are off to ya buddy! The SPRA too holds something similiar at the Open House, May 2&3rd. We even offer club rifles (.233 & 308) with ammo, matts, jackets and slings. There is even a spare spotter or too usually. (There are only 4 of them so you have to book 'em if you want to reserve one)

Does the BPRA have any "club rifles" for those that want to try the "peeps"?

No, and in fact I have not exactly had an overwhelming response from the TR community to help with this, hence the emphasis on F-Class, but that's ok, that's what I know best... :) See ya in June!

I always thought those TR guys from BC were a bunch of wankers. You better call some of them and tell them to get their asses out to the range and help out. Shame them into it if you have to. I don't see new TR shooters lined up out the door.

Mission wasn't interested in doing it this year. They will maybe do one next year before they host the Sierra match. I see the BCRA has a day in which new shooters may attend for free as guests as a shooting introduction... might be worth a try, or... we're only a 3 hour drive from the Port Mann.... about the same amount of time I used to take from driving from Steveston Highway to Cambie along #3 road on a Saturday.

I am always interested in learning new shooting games and trying different courses of fire etc. If you hosted the event for longer than a day I am sure many more people would drive up.

One day is as long as we need to make it. Many cannot devote 2 days plus travelling. We have folks coming from as far away as Prince George, The South Okanagan and the GVRD.

I dunno, for you two hoodlums, I think we'll lock the gate after you're in! :) :)

Get a hold of me and let me know when you will be there so we can make sure we have access for you

Any more guys interested in camping out the night before? I'd like to get into town Saturday afternoon to do some shopping at Powderkeg, then nip over to the range. I don't have a key though, so I'd have to meet up with someone.
Or I could just come in early Sunday.

Steve,

There will be others camping there. Richard will unlock the gate at 1800 on Saturday, if you can just make sure it is kept closed as there are free-range cattle. (Not free RANGE cattle, or FREE range-cattle, but...well... you get the idea )

Perfect! I'll be there at 6pm.

Thanks to everyone that helped put on a very informative introduction to the sport.

I am glad I had to leave before I had a chance to try out any of the nice looking benchrest rigs, because I'm sure I delayed the purchase of another rifle.

That wind sure made things interesting.

Thanks again for the effort guys, it was a blast.

Thank You for a great day.

Thank You Ian for a great clinic. I have learned a lot about the various disciplines, about the scoring, the equipment and the congenial fellowship. You have a very nice facility for these competitions and your colleagues were were very enthusiastic and helpful.

Having the worst scores and being beat by 10-year old Cassidy  not my best day... but when you shoot 204 that explodes in mid-flight in an F-5 tornado of sorts, well, I should've seen it coming.

Nevertheless, it was a really enjoyable time and I learned a lot from everyone. Met a lot of new people and put faces and names to many of you gun nutz. Kudos to the organizers.

P.S. Fortunately I did not shoot you guys' 6BR or I would be tempted to buy a new gun that I don't have money to feed. :D

Glad you guys had a good time, I was just as surprised about the exploding bullet as you were but it does happen on a fairly regular basis from what I have been told. 204 is notorious for it too. Unfortunately my eye was not in the spotting scope at the time.

The point was not for bragging rights coming out with top scores, the main point behind the clinic was to introduce you guys to how a match is run so that more of you will come and try now that you have the "lay of the land" with match procedures.

Don't worry, Cassidy came out one Sunday and did better than a few of us with full on F-Class rigs....myself included. Give her another few years and she'll be taking home first place trophies.

Richard

PS: We shot our finals of the Winter League last weekend in winds as interesting as they were today.

Here are a few pics from the day.
