This is the difference between early SST bullets and the "new" SSTIL

Just go to the Hornady site. They explain it well and have posted comments.

I personally like the SST IL bullets and use them in several different hunting loads. I use them in 25/6.5/7mm/308/311.

None of them are shot at magnum velocities, such as 3000fps.

I haven't been able to recover many bullets, because they usually go out the other sided on boiler room shots.

I have recovered the SSTIL bullets after going through a shoulder joint and a shoulder blade. Both shots were close to 100yds and around 2800fps with 6.5 and 7mm, 139 grain bullets.

Both bullets retained about 50% of their original weight.

Thanks man i will check that site out now!

good information too, 2800 fps or so an held 50% is sweet, as expected from lighter cup n core! im feeling good about usng these with lower velocitie that ill be gettn.. thanks for that

i shot thru a sambar hind at 300m with sst in the rem mag but between the ribs so not alot to slow it up on? not a good answer for them yet.

The 7-08 aughta be nicely paced for them! even if they are the older ones

I use the 139 grn SSTIL in a Rem Mod 7, with a 22in after market barrel, set into a MacMillan stock, with a Leupold Vari X II, 3x9x40. It's a very versatile rig for hunting around timber clear cuts, where shots can be anywhere from 25 yards to 300+ yds.

I have two loads that perform very well in my 1-9 twist bbl.

The newer InterLock bullets will have a cannelure, which also creates a second interlock. The box states that they are Interlock.

44.0 grains of W748, over CCI250 primers, under 139 grn SSTIL. This load gives me appx 2900fps over a magnetospeed. It's pretty close to book maximum but it hits the most accurate sweet node on this rifle.

47.5 grains of W760 over CCI250 primers, under 139 grn SSTIL. This load gives me appx 2800fps and gives slightly better accuracy. Both are very accurate from my rifle.

I use the W760 because I have a lot of that particular powder on hand. I don't think the real on target, felt difference between either load, would be noticeable.
