compression die

Anyone have a 45/70 compression die they are not using or know where in canada i can get one.

what exactly do you mean by a compression die? I am guessing it is not a sizing die?

it is also called a compression plug used for compressing black powder in the 45/70 case

Delta.....you don't really have to buy one...you can use your expander die(45/70) or better still use the expander die from a .44mag. or .45 colt , the expander stem does a good job of compression and is fully adjustable, use a wad between powder and bullet. You may also find that you don't need to compress the powder if you are using a 4' drop tube and pouring s-l-o-w-l-y!

I believe that studies have shown that around 2' or a little less is all that is necessary for a drop tube. I use a drop tube and only compress the powder a tiny amount when I seat the bullet. You can also vibrate the cases on the base of a vibrator sander without the sandpaper on it.
If you are still sure you want to compress the powder, you can make up a short piece of wooden dowel a little under bullet diameter, or a short piece of steel rod and back that against a 7/8 x14 tpi bolt in your loading press.

buffalo arms sells those, also track of the wolf,, i made mine from a .45 colt die,,, wade
