Concealed carry~what should he pick?

Unless state laws specifically adds further restrictions, US Federal law permits Canadians who enter the US legally without a visa as non resident aliens to legally purchase firearms, according to the BATFE.

People may have been able to purchase a firearm but they were breaking the law. You can only purchase if have been a resident of the state for 90 days. 90 days as a visitor does not count.

Page 907: "Temporary stay in a state does not make the state of temporary stay the state of residence."

And if you're not there temporarily then you broke the law when you entered the USA by not declaring your intentions to stay.

I could be wrong though, if you can show me the relevant law that says otherwise.

I am not an expert in US law. Per the ATF website, https://www.atf.gov/qa-category/nonimmigrant-aliens

Generally speaking, 18 U.S. Code § 922 prohibits aliens from possessing firearms, however there are exceptions for both non-resident aliens who enter under a non-immigrant visa, as well as those who are entering without needing a visa at all.

Also from ATF, but sadly without a reference to a specific section of the US Code. https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/doe...earms-and-ammunition-aliens-nonimmigrant-visa

Does the prohibition on the receipt and possession of firearms and ammunition by aliens in nonimmigrant visa status apply to nonimmigrant aliens who lawfully enter the United States without a visa?

No. A nonimmigrant alien who is lawfully admitted to the United States without a visa (e.g. Visa Waiver Program), may acquire or possess a firearm in the United States.

I would expect that if there was a stat residency requirement, it would have been identified, as the ATF site is pretty good that way.

I submitted information requests to both the ATF and the State Department to clarify/substantiate this claim. I have yet to hear a response, however I spoke to one gun store near my corporate head office in a southern state and they confirmed that If i have an Alien Admission number, they would submit for the NICS background check, and expect it would be approved. There was no talk of residency.

I recently received my NH PnR license with the intent to CCW. I am also trying to confirm through the NH state police what the requirements are for purchasing local.

The issue here is that non immigrant aliens applies to a large class of non immigrants. Some of which can have residency in the USA. For example: students and workers on TN visas. I do not believe visitors can ever be considered residents of the state which they are temporarily in.

Again, I'm not 100% sure. However, I am an immigrant and I can tell you for a fact they will not warn you about running afoul of the many laws they have and the penalties are very stiff. It's very easy to commit fraud as an immigrant. Say you are on a TN Visa and you get engaged and make plans for the wedding. Unless you inform them the next time you cross the border, you are committing fraud.

I would say a look at the sig p320. But the full size and buy the compact grip module. Best of both worlds. The most difficult aspect of concealing is the grip, not the barrel.

However, if hell bent on a short barrel, just get the p320 compact. Also, all grip sizes come in small. As a guy with smallish hands, I have not felt a pistol that feels better in the hand than the p320 with a small grip (I have both the full size small grip and the compact small grip)

The reality of being a Green Card holder, compared to an actual citizen, in the US is quite a difference! So to speak.

As a Green Card holder, buying a pistol, up to 2-hour wait (go for lunch!) Citizen, sales person runs off with your $5.00, comes back at once, with the OK.

After studying gunfights, Law Enforcement and CCW holders, for many years. It becomes fairly plain to see, a phrase that I coined in the 80s, while a board member of IALEFI "More is better, always!" reference capacity. Is true.

At 205 lbs, and 5'9" tall (used to be 5"11" but shrunk a bit!) my Gen 4 Glock 19, is easy to conceal. And if you get into a confrontation, where rounds are fired, with more than one apponent? My statment on capacity is a good bit of advice. And the Glock 19 is a good piece of kit.
