Tighten the nut on the decapper spindle, take of the die lock nut and roll it on a flat surface and watch the decapping pin wobble. On regular dies they are very hard to centre in the die. High end dies or collet dies are no issue. Leave the spindle loose and will self centre. I’m currently experimenting with the o-ring under the nut like a Lee die to see if it has any effect.

I've tried all of the above mentioned ways to reduce run-out. They did work to a small extent, but nothing (for the price) worked as well to practically eliminate run-out as using a Redding body die to size the case and bump the shoulder and a Lee collet die to size the neck. Keep in mind that this can be undone with a bad seater die. Forster seater dies work good.JMO

I bought most of the gauges for checking runout after I turned 60. And after turning 60 your eyesight starts going bad, and your hands start to shake.

So give gitting a runout gauge and getting old some thought, you just might need some laser guided bullets and a young person holding the laser beam designator.

Every time I tried to get the perfect 25 inch pounds of force on the press handle the string broke broke and the duct tape would rip. :bangHead:

I have an rcbs one that is collecting dust. If you use good reloading dies, use common sense, good loading and tuning technique you don't need it. Ultimately what matters is consistent small groups.
However, if it gives you psychological peace of mind then go for it...Confidence cannot be understated.....

I roll loaded rounds across a flat surface and watch for wobble in the bullet.. if I can't see any they're good to go. Any visible wobble and they're relegated to warm up or fouling shots.
