So I know that there's a difference between the two and the wisdom seems to be that a rifle designed for both will do the job of neither effectively.

So what is the real practical effect of heat stringing in a sporter barrel vs a bull barrel? are we talking 3 moa after the fourth shot or what?

say for someone practicing on a deer vitals sized target at 100 yards- will the heat stringing have a serious effect on the ability to make hits after continuous fire? like say- 30 rounds.

I would say, impossible to say.

Each and every barrel is unique. Each and every barrel will respond differently to heat. Some with warp and twist. Some won't. If you are lucky, you'll get one that won't. The only way to know for sure, is do it. Shoot slow, 5 minutes between shots, until you are confident of what your groups will do. Then, blast 50 shot fast, only taking time to actually aim correctly. How are your last 5 shot group with a smoking hot barrel? That's the real test.

Further, a thick barrel may be stiffer, but it also holds heat longer, so while a sporter barrel is thinner, and will heat up faster, it will also cool down faster as well.

Depends on the gun. If your barrel heats up and causes it to make contact at one point or another on your stock then it'll be a huge difference. Barrel harmonics will be affected as well which can throw shots about 1-1.5moa. It could also not make a lick of difference in your point of impact.
