I agree with the bird hunting notion. Easy to learn, easy to clean.

I started hunting grouse with my father when I was eight or so, and some of my fondest memories of spending time with my father are from those fall trips up to the Smithers/Telkwa area.

That little single-shot .410 is still the best gift I have ever recieved, when I turned twelve, bar none...cause it was truly from DAD :)
 
All kinds of great talk here. It's really good to see that parents are willing to take their children out and pass on the sport and tradition.

But I'll be honest, the first grouse I ever got was a seagull, and I killed that with my Jeep.
