ok so i just got off the phone with someone from Ellwood epps.. trying to get some prices.. he mentioned i need specific rings to fit the base i want... but i look at all the charts i could find and it confuses me greately.
the rifle: remington 700 short action
the scope i want is the Bushnell 3200 10x40mm.
the base i was looking at is the warne picatinney(from Ellwood).. or Ken Farrell(from mystic)
the rings i would like are the Leupold Mark 4 rings or PRW rings from Ellwood or the Burris XTR rings from mystic.
what size should i get? i thought as long as they fit the scope and base.. it would work out.. but excuse my ignorance :p

The things you need to know about what rings to buy are this:
-Objective size on the scope (also known as the "bell"). You need to know this so you know what height rings to get (med, high, x-high etc...)
-diameter of the main tube - usually 1" or 30mm
-what base they are going onto. Picatinny rails are the same as Weaver style bases, so any Weaver style rings will fit.

When you call Elwood Epps, they should be able to help you with your selection.

When you called Epps, you neglected to mention which type of Leupold Mark IV rings you wanted. I suggested to you then that we needed to know the type of ring you wanted, as well as height and diameter.

I did provide you with pricing on the Bushnell 10x 40mm Elite 3200 scope, and informed you that we are out of stock on both the 20 MOA and flat Warne bases for the Remington 700 Short Action rifles.

Now that you have a more concrete idea of what rings you need, please contact the store again, ask for Kevin, and I will provide pricing and availability for you.

There may also be a bit of personal preference as to the height of everything. If you're picky you may end up going through a couple of height variations to get everything where you want it.

Also there is a difference in the tube diameter of the scope (1", 30mm, etc) and thus ring size.

It is also may be worth noting that, in my experience, both the Farrell base and the XTR rings are a little on the high side of things compared to some others I've played with. For example a Farrel base sits higher than a Near base and XTR rings are higher than say TPS.

This isn't necessarily bad or good, it just may be worth noting that there is no guarantee of uniformity between manufacturers.

ok so from the information i gathered...
its a 1inch tube.. with a 49mm objective diameter
im guessing the medium PRW rings will fit. i think they come in the 1 inch tube sizes right?

Consider that the higher the rings, the higher the possibility of an inefficient cheek weld. unless your remy 700 stock has a cheek riser...
Of course that depends, also, on the size of your brain housing.
IMHO, the low rings were just fine with the 10x40 mildot, and provided myself with a better cheekweld

sorry about that Kevin, i did call back with more information and i got all the help i needed. thanks! ill definately be getting my supplies from you guys, i just live a short drive away. i think ive decided on the PRW medium rings but when i go in to pick things up ill take a look at low rings and see how it turns out.
i just need to know when you guys at Ellwoods get some warne bases in.
thanks again!

For what it is worth, I had a 50mm objective sitting on medium burris XTR on a -20Farrel base and found it too high on my Rem700.

Low TPS rings on a Near -25 base still left lots of room for the objective.
