shipping scopes
i can understand where a lot of the confusion comes from!!
i personally called customs a few days ago to ask them about "e-bay scopes". after a surprisingly short wait, i was connected to a customs agent.i explained to them that i was considering buying a rifle scope intended for hunting and sporting purposes and wanted to know what kind of import/export permits were required on BOTH sides of the border. after a brief pause she came back and said if i was the winning bidder, i needed to contact the seller and have them put a declaration sticker(available at any us post office)on the package stating "the contents and full price, not including shipping fees, for the purpose of collecting duty and taxes in canada". that's it?? yes, she said, worst case scenario, you have to pay the gst, pst, and 7% duty. she then wished me luck in the auction, and asked if there was anything else she could do for me(insert rude thought here...she sounded pretty cute!!)sorry, couldn't resist!!
i then contacted the "seller" via e-mail, and he confirmed what customs told me (almost word for word), and said he'd never had any problems, he ships 3-5 a week to canada, let him know if i wanted the scope, etc. etc.
then i did a net search on import/export for rifle scopes and found the site i posted earlier, plus a lot of other information regarding brokers and permits.
all i know is that the scope i have now is starting to look pretty good!!!
